John Salisbury I, son of William Salisbury II:
... John Salisbury, youngest son of William Salisbury and Elizabeth Beal, was born on Dec 8, 1769 in Boston, Mass. where his father was engaged in the colonial service and where his early years were passed. At the close of the Revolution, he went with his family to the town of Conway, Mass, in the western part of the state beyond the Connecticut River, and for years was engaged in farming. In 1791 he visited Phelps, NY with a company of neighbors who had settled in western NY, where subsequently he purchased an estate and established a permanent home. On Jan 4, 1798, he married Elizabeth, daughter of Captain Lemuel Bannister of Conway, and in the spring of 1799 removed with his wife and household goods to the new home in Phelps, where he had previously gone and erected a house. He died at Phelps, NY on March 18, 1857 and was buried on Melvin Hill in a plot of ground given by himself for a public cemetery. His wife was born in Conway, Mass. Oct 27, 1773, was of a good family and died on Dec 29, 1806, aged 33 years and was buried near Oaks Corners.
... After Elizabeth died in 1806, leaving John with 5 small children, he lost his son Franklin a year later at age 7. On Aug 20, 1807, John married his 2nd wife Polly Wilder, daughter of Samuel Wilder and Rebecca Nims. Polly was born on Sept 1, 1785 and died in Phelps, NY Nov 21, 1850. Five sons and two daughters were born to them, five of whom attained adult years, and became separate family units.

Caleb Bannister, born Feb 10, 1801, married Dorothy Sheldon Jan 25, 1830, and died in Phelps on Aug 18, 1851.
Luther, born Sep 15, 1802, married Esther Gates Dec 14, 1826, and died in Phelps Jun 8, 1875
Foster Barnard, born Jun 18, 1804, married twice, 1st wife Elizabeth Cole, daughter of Benjamin Cole and Rachael Salisbury, 2nd wife Elizabeth Thomas, Foster Barnard died Sep 11, 1871 at Humphrey, NY.
