Luella Pease (our Grandmother) Information

Gram's Father Charles Pease, born Feb 12, 1854 in Steuben Co. it is uncertain in which Town, may be Gibson, Corning or Painted Post. His Father was Edwin Pease, his Mother was Jennie Smith. In the 1892 tax assessment book he owned 12 acres in section 8 , his occupation was laborer and later as farmer, this was in Summerhill, near Lake Como and very close to the birthplace of Milliard Fillmore (13th President of US). Charles died Aug 20, 1922 at 8:30 PM. He died of Cardiac Degeneration, age 68 yrs, 6 mos, 8 days old.

Gram's Mother Jennie Leonard was born in Dryden, Tompinkins Co. she was the dau of Charles Leonard and Mary Brown. She died of Carcinoma of the stomach Aug 18, 1806, age 48 yrs, 8 mos, 18 days.

Both of them are buried in Sand Hill Cemetery , just North of Dresserville in the Township of Sempronius, NY. Cemetery is still in use and is not far from the old Pease farm.

After Jennie Leonard died in 1906, Charles, got married again. He married a young woman Alta Hughson, who was born in Tully Valley, Onandaga Co. The first child of this marriage was Nina Pearl Pease, born May 15, 1914. The record however, stated that this was their 3rd child?? They went on to have Edward Charles Pease, born Jan 25, 1916, Chester Ward Pease, born May 26, 1919 and Lillian Arlene Pease Feb 27, 1921. At the time Lillian was born, Charles was 67 yrs old and Alta was 30

I got the following info from Cayuga County records in Auburn, NY, they had listed a Charlie Pease on their website as one who was counted in an 1892 census (taken Feb 16, 1892, just before Gram was born), I had to send for a hardcopy of the census page, here's what was listed.

Census Feb 16, 1892 Summer Hill, Cayuga County
Charlie Pease age 35 Laborer
Jane Pease 32 (this is no doubt Jennie Leonard) (Mom used to use the name Jane vs Jennie)
Berton Pease 13
Flora Pease 16 (this must be Aunt Florie, sis to Gram)
Helen Pease 5
Charles H. Pease and Alta E. Hughson were married July 8, 1908 in Homer, Cortland Co. NY, Charles was 55, Alta was 18. Alta was the dau of James Hughson and Carrie Wing. Charles, who's Father was listed as "unknown" Pease on his death certificate, had his Father listed as Edwin Pease on this wedding certificate.
