Elon G. Salisbury, aged 76, passed away at his home on North Wayne Street Sunday morning, following an illness of but two days with pneumonia.

Mr. Salisbury was the son of Elon Galusha and Hannah Salisbury and was born on Melvin Hill. His early education was aquired at the Phelps High School. He later entered Williams College from which institute he graduated in 1874. He later studied law and taught school. In his early life, while attending the grade school, he was obsessed of a desire to learn the printers trade and worked in the CITIZEN office. About 50 years ago, he purchased the CITIZEN and after operating it for a time, sold out and moved to New York City. Ten years of his life was spent in the journalistic field in New York City and seven years in Geneva, from which place he removed to Rochester and accepted the position of editor of the CASKET, a periodical published in the interest of the undertaking business. Retiring from active duties 15 years ago, he returned to the old home town where he again joined the CITIZEN staff as Associate Editor, his last contributions appearing in the editorial column of this issue.

Besides his duties to this office, Mr. Salisbury operated a small printing plant at his home where he wrote and printed several books, among them "The Salisburian", a history of the Salisbury family and "The Life of Dr. Hopkins" who was President of Williams College at the time of Mr. Salisbury's graduation from that institution, both of these books a credit to the printer's art. This activity was carried not from a renumerative standpoint but soley for his love for the work.

Mr. Salisbury was also active in religious affairs and at the time of his death was an elder, clerk of the session and teacher of the Brotherhood Class of the Presbyterian Church, which positions he faithfully held for a number of years.

About 15 years ago, through his efforts the Salisbury Pioneer Association was organized and he held the offices of secretary, treasurer and historian since the association's inception.

Surviving relatives are, his wife Martha Stoutenburg Salisbury, to whom he was married Nov 15, 1882, two brothers, Clarence Salisbury of Detroit, Mich. and John W. Salisbury of Phelps and one sister Mrs. Hattie Hannah Hughson also of this town.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Charles J. Wood officiating, and internment was made at Clifton Springs, NY
