It was not a British government that sent its representatives to the enemy to ask for an Armistice.
It was not the Germans who moved to occupy the country of their defeated enemy.
The defeat of the main enemy on the main fighting front had been led by the British armies.

Narrative

Thomas Drury use to go out with Florence M Fisher and it is said that when he did not return from WW1, she married his brother Benjamin. - (from Irene Treneman)

Thomas was said to be such a good singer that the neighbours use to shout over the balconies for him to sing. - (from Irene Treneman nee Drury 2009)

Narrative

After all the years of Harriet maintaining that Thomas was alive and that she had not been told he had been killed it appears she was in denial about his death. (On the other hand having lost her last 3 baby's and her husband she may have not been feeling very good herself.!)
She would have been informed of his death and been sent his medals as well as the kings scroll and may-be a pension( I must look into weather or not a pension was paid for sons killed?)
It looks like he joined up as soon as he was 17. - (from Irene Treneman nee Drury 2008) + (from James T Drury 2008) -----

Fred Tite got Harriet a pension for Thomas when Frederick married her. - (from Albert Wilcox 2009) Better late than never.

Narrative

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Narrative

Queens buildings were situated on Collinson Street & Scovell Road in Southwark. Both roads running between Borough Road & Southwark Bridge Road on the site of the Old King Bench Prison ........................Today (2009) both roads are no more than entrance roads to a newer housing estate, Collinson not even having a road sign............You can get an idea of what the estate was like as Queens Buildings was much like the surviving Peabody estates in the area. See James T Drury for photos of Queens Buildings etc. - (from Les Treneman)
