| Isaiah Nazaire Drolet was born April 9, 1827 in St. Constant, Quebec, Canada. Nazaire is the only recorded son of Fancois Drolet and Mary Cecile Bourelle. He had seven siblings, at least four of these siblings died in infancy. One of his sisters, Cecile Drolet was born about 1824 in Quebec, Canada. | ![]() |
| Preliminary research shows Cecile married Bernard Boucher. They have not been located in the U.S. Federal Census. 1880 Census shows Bernards parents residing in Watertown, Jefferson County, New York. | |
| During the year 1844, when Nazaire was 17, he left his homeland, for a scarcely inhabited town in upstate New York; the Township of Saranac located in Clinton County. An interesting note to be made, is that Nazaire's father, Francois Drolet married his second wife, Mary Lachapelle, the same year.No death record has been located for Mary Lachapelle. |

| Nazaire was sponsored by Joseph Maggy prior to his applying for U.S. Citizenship. It is yet to be determined if Joseph was originally in Canada, and Nazaire was under Mr. Maggy's tutelage, thus coming across the border together, or if Nazaire decided to set out on his own. There are also questions if Nazaire's father, Francois came to the United States at the same time. | ![]() |
| During his sponsorship years, Nazaire's occupation was that of a laborer, as can be seen in the 1850 census. Nazaire is said to have built architectural structures in Lyon Mountain and business establishments on Cook Road in Dannemora, where the Dannemora State Prison is located. Nazaire additionally built The Drolet Homestead on Bucks Corners Road, his neighbor Clifford Donah's residence as well as one of his son's residence, all located in Saranac. | |
| There has been much speculation over the following images. The first image is thought to be Eddie Lymans homestead or Nazaire Drolet's homestead. Both houses are located on Bucks Corners Road, Saranac, New York. If you would like a larger scale image showing clearer detail and can validate which homestead this is, contact me at French Connections. | ![]() |
| The next two images are of Nazaire Drolet's Homestead that was taken in August 2003. Notice the similarity in the gable and background surroundings. Taking into account a century has passed and many changes have taken place, I do believe these two house are one and the same. The gable on the Lyman Homestead is altogether different then what is in the first image. | ![]() |
