Descendants of Gideon Draper

1694-1750

Limited information on this line of Drapers can be found in the 1892 book, The Drapers in America, written by Thomas Waln-Morgan Draper. In a footnote on page 119, the author quite appropriately complains,

"In reference to the descendants of Gideon Draper, the author desires to say, that they have become so widely scattered, and the majority are so indifferent to genealogical matters, that it has been with the utmost difficulty that any connecting lines could be established. The use so generally, in this branch, of the name of Gideon, has also tended to greatly confuse and delay the work, and it may be said that at least three times as much labor has been done to collect the following data as that devoted to any other branch of the family, and if there are errors, the reader will please blame those whose duty it was to supply the information, and who neglected to do so, although repeatedly urged."

Can't you just sense the frustration!

I am including this page on my website in the feeble attempt to rectify some of the indifference previously shown by our ancestors. I know of nowhere else where information on this Draper line can be found in a single location. It is my hope that as others visit here, they will continually add to the body of knowledge, so that we can learn our mutual ancestry while also getting to know our cousins.

The ancestry of Gideon Draper is available in the afore-mentioned book. I have used The Drapers in America (hereafter referred to as "DIA") as the basis for this work, including its numbering system with those who are named in the book.

Other acknowledgments need to be rendered to:

Mr. Frank L. Juszli, of Farmington, CT, a devoted Draper genealogist for whom I hold the highest regard;

Ms. Jean Lye, of Sudbury, ON, Canada, an expert on the Drapers in Canada;

countless others who have sent me their family's information to add to this gigantic jigsaw puzzle.

All additional submissions of data are herewith gratefully acknowledged.
