22 Jany 1822 The State of South Carolina know all men by this presents that I Philip Pitman of Kershaw district planter in the State aforesaid in consideration of the sum of two thousand dollars to me paid by James K Douglas of the town of Camden merchant in the state aforesaid have granted bargained sold and released unto the said James K Douglas all that plantation or tract of land lying in the fork of Pine Tree Creek called the Cypress pond tract containing five hundred and eighty acres by the same more or less bounded Southeastwardly by land of Duncan McRa Esquire, northwardly by Captain William Ancrum and the estate of Colonel Joseph Kershaw and on all other sides by the lands of the said estate as appears by a plat then of hereunto annexed. Together with all and singular the rights memberments and appointenances to the said premises belonging or in any wise incident or appertaining. To have and to hold all singular the premises before mentioned unto the said James K Douglas his heirs and asigns forever. And I do hereby bind myself my heirs executors and administrators to warrant and forever defend all and singular the said premises unto the said James K Douglas his heirs and assigns against me and my heirs and all or any other person or persons lawfully claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof. With my hand and seal this twenty-fourth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight-hundred and twenty two (crossed out and put one) and in the forty sixth year of the Independence of the United Stated of Americasigned sealed and delivered in the prescence of

The State of South Carolina Kershaw District I Thomas P Evans Clerk the Court of Common Pleas for Kershaw District do hereby certify unto whom it may concern the Pherebe Pitman, the wife of the withering man Philip Pitman do this day appear before me and whom being privately and separately examined by me did declare that she doed freely voluntarily and without any compulsion dread or fear of any person or persons whomsoever renounce release and forever relinquish unto the wither named James K Douglas his heirs and asigns all her interests_____ and also all her rights and claims of dower of in or to all and singular the premises within mentioned and released given under my hand and seal this eighth day of January Anna Domini 1822.
