     She Her father's nickname, "dit Madouesse" meant "the Porcupine" by which name he was always referred to by the local Acadians of Cape Breton for having slammed some poor fellow trapper with a stiff porcupine,. thinking he was a British soldier looking for him in the woods

     18.  Charles5 Boudrot dit Madouesse (Michel Boudrot, #36) was born circa 1725 Port Toulouse, Cape Breton, NS, CAN. He married Marguerite Dugas (see #19), daughter of Abraham Dugas and Marguerite Fougere, circa 1754 Port Toulouse, Cape Breton, NS, CAN.

     He He gained the nickname of Madouesse (porcupine) from an incident that occurred when people were hiding from the British to avoid being expelled from the colony. He was trapping to provide food for his family during the winter. He had just retrieved a stiff porcupine from a trap, when he heard rustling in the brush. Thinking it a British soldier, when the intruder rounded a bush in the trail, he swung his only weapon, the porcupine with all his strength and knocked the intruder to the ground, only to discover that it was a fellow Acadian. After helping his victim through the painful ordeal, he was extremely embarrassed by it all, but not as embarrassed as he was going to be, for when the story got around, he was to be known as the "porcupine", by his friends, neighbors and fellow Acadians, for the rest of his life. It was one of the humorous stories to come out of a very strenuous period of Acadian histoy.
