Crash kills Anaconda man
A 44-year-old Anaconda man died Wednesday afternoon in a one-vehicle
rollover on Interstate 90, about 11 miles west of Butte.
His name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
The Montana Highway Patrol said the man was driving westbound
in a 2000 pickup truck about 5:40 p.m. when he swerved off the
right side of the roadway, and skidded along the guardrail for
about 90 feet. He then veered off the right edge of the pavement,
overcorrected to the left, returned to the road and overcorrected
to the right. The vehicle then left the road, went down an embankment
and rolled, ejecting the driver.
The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene.
He was alone in the vehicle. Speed did not contribute to the
crash, according to the patrol's report, and investigators did
not know Wednesday whether alcohol was a factor. The pavement
was bare and dry.
