William Nelson DeTar

            William Nelson DeTar, 97, of Albia, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Oakwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albia. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Rev. Kevin Leveck officiating. Burial will be in Oak View Cemetery in Albia.
He was born March 18, 1905, in Albia, to Edward and Louise Nelson DeTar.             He married Jessie Elizabeth Bettis on Feb. 24, 1929. She died Sept. 14, 1985. He was a graduate of Albia High School, class of 1923. He was a farmer his whole life. He was also a substitute mail carrier for several years. He started subbing his mail route with a horse and buggy and later with an automobile. He was a former school board member for the country schools in Troy Township in Monroe County.
            He is survived by one daughter, Ruth Hutchinson and husband Wiley of Lovilia; one son, Vernon and his wife Becky of Albia; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Grace Moore of Clarissa, Minn.

            He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one sister, Frances Robinson; and one brother, Eli DeTar.
            Visitation began Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Winfield Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 p.m., Thursday evening.
            Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia.
            Winfield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ALBIA - William Nelson DeTar, 97, of Albia, died Jan. 29, 2003, at Oakwood Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Albia.
He was born March 18, 1905 at Albia to Edward and Louise Nelson DeTar. He married Jessie Elizabeth Bettis Feb. 24, 1929. She preceded him in death Sept. 14, 1985.
He was a 1923 graduate of Albia High School. He had been a farmer and a substitute mail carrier. He was a former school board member for the Country Schools in Troy Township, Monroe County.

Visitation will be after noon today (Thursday) at Winfield Funeral Home, Albia with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be David and Dustin Hutchinson, Steven, Scott, and Stacy DeTar and Bill Crall.
Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, Albia.
