JOHN VAN HAGAN was born on 04 Aug 1875 in Lawrence, Wyandotte County, Kansas, son of JOHN A. HAGAN and HANNAH MARIA VAN FRANK. After his mother died in 1881 and his father died in 1884, he was sent to Three Rivers, St. Joseph County, Michigan to live with MR. AND MRS. C.P. VAN FRANK.
He graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1895 and then worked in the draughting department of the Sheffield Car Works in Three Rivers. His future wife, MABEL ANGELINE DEAL graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1898. She was the daugher of CLARENCE GERALD DEAL and CORA BELLE HAMMOND.
They were married in Three Rivers on 25 Oct 1899. They went to live in Chicago where he worked as a draughtsman. In January 1903 they moved back to Three Rivers where he again worked in the draughting department of the Sheffield Car Works. They had three children:
1) JOHN GERALD HAGAN was born on 25 Sept 1902 in Three Rivers. He married Nell Bixby and had two children.
2) AUDREY MARIE HAGAN as born on 19 Nov 1903 in Three Rivers. She married RICHARD BAUM and had five children. She died in July 1994.
3) [name withheld – still living] was born on 24 July 1911 in Three Rivers. He married MARY ELIZABETH CREGO on 22 Sept 1934 in Three Rivers and had five children.
John Van Hagan died on 30 Mar 1911 in Three Rivers at the age of 36 from pleuro pneumonia. He is buried in Riverside Cemetary in Three Rivers. Mabel married (2) ELWOOD P. DIEHL on 12 Jan 1923 in Elkhart, Elkhart County, Indiana. He died on 03 Feb 1955 in Elkhart and she died on 21 Aug 1965 in Elkhart. Both are buried in the Grace Lawn Cemetary in Elkhart.
