Notes :

Saint John was the principal port of entry for Irish immigrants to the United States in the pre Famine peiod.  For a brief period in 1829-1830, the pastor at St. Malachi's, Father John Carrol, recorded parentage and place of birth (usually parish of birth) for all the couples at whose weddings he presided.

From these records, it is possible to distill information regarding many Donegal couples married ca. 1800 or even earlier.

In most instances, the maiden surnames of the mothers of the contracting parties are noted.
