1. Orr, Joseph Alexander d. Dec. 1860, Sappagh, Muff, Co. Donegal, Ireland, m1 ? McLarky. Joseph moved to Parish of Muff, Townland of Sappaph from Trunta? or Treenta? or possibly Treantagh when he purchased or a lease to 24 acres, two roods and twenty eight perches of land on 1 May 1825 from The Most Honorable George Augustus Marquis of Donegall. This land was sold in 1950.
Ref: (O. D. Cresswell, Ltr. dtd. 13 Dec. 1992) -- "The Marquis of Donegall was the head of the Chichester family who stem from a Devon family. The first of the line in Ireland was a General in time of Elizabeth and James 1. For his services he was given huge estates in Ireland mostly in Antrim and Donegal. He became Lord Donegall (the double L in name comes from fact that the County of Donegall was spelled with a double L in the seventeenth century). The first of the family was Sir Arthur Chichester whose tomb is in St. Nicholas Church, Carrickfergus. He built a castle in Belfast, the start of the city, and the family lost most of their money gambling about 1830. A fortunate marriage with the Shaftesbury family restored their fortunes and a second Castle was built on the slopes of the Cave Hill near where I live. The first castle was destroyed by fire in early eighteenth century. The bodies of Sir Arthur and his family were exhumed from Carrickfergus and reburied in the Chapel of Ease which was built in the grounds of the second Castle. A few years ago it was found that the graves had been vandalized and there was quite an outcry. Those responsible were brought to court and it was found that they were from well to do families and had done it for "kicks"."
Ref: (Conveyance was sent to me by Roy Stewart by direction of his Mother, Ms. Harriet Stewart) -- A Conveyance dated 25 October 1860 between Joseph Orr of Sappogh, Co. Donegal, Ireland and Alexander Orr, his son, of the same place. Has a name Michael B. Lane 17 Upper Temple Street along side of conveyance. He may have been a lawyer or justice of peace.
