This website is a compilation of 18th, 19th & early 20th century resources, provided to assist amateur genealogists with their family history research in Donegal

It is the work of myself and other amateur researchers. There are now 2,313 pages of transcriptions online, with more to come!

You will find project pages, where a large collection of records have been compiled on a subject/event or parish, as well as general indexes to BDM, census or land records, where full or partial transcriptions have been compiled. There are also maps, photographs and indexes to all available records and published works.

I have been researching my Donegal ancestors for many years - the research is difficult and a lot of the records hard to navigate, but once you understand these available records, you can put together a good family history. Donegal records are limited however - civil registration didn't start until 1864 for the general population, church registers in the mid 1800s, though a lucky few start earlier; and very few 19th century census exist; the earliest universally available is 1901.
