Help Solve The Mystery Of The BALLEW'S Of Burke County, North Carolina!
There are a number of Ballew Family Lines, including this one, that reach a dead end in Burke County, North Carolina.  Several other Ballew Family Lines can be traced back through Burke County to Virginia.  I would like to use this Web Site to collect and display all original source documents relating to Ballews (of all spellings) in Burke County.  It is desired to group source documents by type.  There would be a page for Census Records, Vital Records, Probate Records, Land Records, Military Records, Cemetery Records, etc.  Each source document would be represented by a typed transcript or extract when that is more feasible; a low resolution image for viewing online; and a high resolution image for downloading and printing.  All documents would be indexed in a database so that they could be searched by surname, given name, places mentioned, date, document type etc.  It is believed that we can connect the Burke County Ballews and push these Family Lines back to earlier generations if the surviving source documents are made available for analysis.  If you can help with this project in any way please email me: donbarry@smyrnacable.net

He married Elizabeth McTaggart.⁽³⁾ Elizabeth was born in Burke County, North Carolina July 12 1805.⁽⁴⁾ Elizabeth was the daughter of Thomas McTaggart and Mary ?. Elizabeth died 21 JAN 1880 in Fannin County, Georgia, at 74 years of age.⁽⁵⁾ Her body was interred abt. 24 JAN 1880 in Fannin County, Georgia, Salem No. 2 Missionary Baptist C.⁽⁶⁾ She sold property in Burke County, North Carolina, 1847.⁽⁷⁾

He sold property in Burke County, North Carolina, 1847.⁽⁸⁾ John was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census in Burke County, North Carolina.⁽⁹⁾ John was a Hot House School patron member in Gilmer (now Fannin) County, Georgia, 1851.⁽¹⁰⁾ He bought property in Cherokee County, North Carolina, 28 JUL 1858.⁽¹¹⁾ He bought property in Cherokee County, North Carolina, 28 JUL 1858.⁽¹²⁾ He sold property in Cherokee County, North Carolina, 05 MAR 1859.⁽¹³⁾

John Ballew and Elizabeth McTaggart had the following children:

5 iv. John Robert Ballew was born 07 FEB 1829.

7 vi. Mary Ann Ballew was born in Burke County, North Carolina 1832.⁽¹⁵⁾

8 vii. Jane Ballew was born in Burke County, North Carolina 1834.⁽¹⁶⁾

9 viii. Mahala Ballew was born in Burke County, North Carolina 1836.⁽¹⁷⁾ She married in Fannin County, Georgia, 23 NOV 1856.⁽¹⁸⁾ D. was born in Burke County, North Carolina 1835.⁽¹⁹⁾ D. was listed as the head of a family on the 1860 Census in Cherokee County, North Carolina.⁽²⁰⁾ He sold property in Cherokee County, North Carolina, 14 SEP 1868.⁽²¹⁾ (See D. She sold property in Cherokee County, North Carolina, 14 SEP 1868.⁽²⁶⁾ She resided south of town in Tahlequah, Indian Territory, Oklahoma 1886.⁽²⁷⁾

11 x. Gabrella Arminda Ballew was born in Burke County, North Carolina 1843.⁽²⁸⁾ Her body was interred in Ducktown, Polk County, Tennessee, Methodist Cemetery.⁽²⁹⁾ She married Elias Milton Kilpatrick Jr. Elias was born 12/28/1837. Elias was the son of Elias Milton Kilpatrick and Mary B. Wood. Elias died 4/13/1897 in Ducktown, Polk County, Tennessee, at 59 years of age.⁽³⁰⁾ His body was interred abt 4/15/1897 in Ducktown, Polk County, Tennessee, Ducktown Methodist Cemetery.⁽³¹⁾ (See Elias Milton Kilpatrick Jr. for the continuation of this line.)

12 xi. Augusta Lourinda Ballew⁽³²⁾ was born in Burke County, North Carolina 1845.⁽³³⁾ She married Robert Hyatt.⁽³⁴⁾ Robert was born in North Carolina 1835. Robert was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Cherokee County, North Carolina.⁽³⁵⁾ (See Robert Hyatt for the continuation of this line.)
