Bowers - 18 Mar 1862 Randolph County March 18 1862 Dear Cousin I have taken this opportunity to send you a few lines by Squire Branson. I am in the enjoyment of good health and have enjoyed the same for some time past for which I feel truly thankfull. and I hope these few lines will reach you and find you likewise. I will tell you something that will apear rather strange to you I expect. I have changed my name. I was married the second day of January to Mr. John Bowers. we live in half a mile of where we lived. we went to __ house in too weeks after we was Married. Their has bin agreat many weddings about here this winter their has agreat many got married and started right to war in a few days. Sameul Lamb is married and Clarkson Lamb is Married. Uncle Thomas and Aunt Mary are still liveing but very feeble. Clarkson and his wife are still liveing withe them. I would be glad if times would get settled and peace would again reign on the land. the north feels the opression of the war verry much. Their are a great many of my aquantance gone to war. men left their familys and gone never more to return and a great many are dying in the hospitable and have bin sent home to their friends. I have not herd from Franklin lately. Asekel lives in Morristown yet I have not saw him but twice since I was Married. I wish to be rememered to Aunt Delilia Vickrey. give my love to all enquiring friends and reserve a portion your self. I must bring my letter to aclose for want of time. it is getting late and we want to gou to the widow __ to nite to give this letter to Squire Branson rite when wecan pass [?] letters.
