Ginniff's and Ruddock's in Loughbrickland

JANE REMLY?S EMAILS & RUDDOCK?S

Margaret Ginniff was. b-4-9-1823, in Banbridge, Co Down. Lived on a farm near Drumnahare, called..."The Hollow". She married a Joseph Ruddick on 1-12-1876, at Loughbrickland Church,parish of Aghaderg, Loughbrickland, Co Down, Ire. He died in 1921. She died 1905. Unknown where, although recent contact with Ginniff relatives in Co Down, tell me that she came to USA...unknown where. Other Ginniff relatives came to Pittsburgh, Pa. However, some headed west to Kansas, and New Mexico. Her sister Mary, and 2 Brothers stayed in Pittsburgh all the rest of their lives. They came about 1884 .

My ggm was Mary Ginniff. She was Margaret Ginniff Ruddicks Sister. I have an old photo of Margaret taken, I believe, in Ireland. She was only about 20 or so.(My guess) I only recently learned who Margaret married when an elderly cousin, from England, named Maurice Ginniff, sent me a copy of his work on our family tree. I found Margarets husband, and b/d dates for both of them on it. I do not know anything else on the Ruddick name. I could send you an address for Maurice, if you want to write him. My Ginniff relatives still live in Co Down, but are very elderly, and only know what is on the tree produced by Maurice. I am happy to help in any way I can, but I really do not know much. My Mary Ginniff (ggm), married Robert Hamilton...supposedly a Scotsman originally. He was a Band Player in Ireland, I am told.

When you mentioned music, I was reminded of this...did they play together in Co Down ?

He also was a staunch Orangeman...therefore a Protestant. In USA he was a Presbyterian.

Since all the Ginniff girls were married at Loughbrickland Church, in Co Down, I would try to write them, for information. I do not have an address, perhaps online it is available. (I imagine the Ruddicks were also members of this church. Especially if ours were related.)

I have been in contact with Stan Thompson...my second cousin...and Roger Cox, listed in this article. I also sent Mary info when she wrote to me...(Siltzel) The John (my ggf) and Joseph Ginniff listed as having a farm called "The Hollow", in Loughbrickland, or Drumnahare...was actually my gggf. His Daughter, Mary Jane Ginniff was my ggm. She left Ireland, in 1884, with her Husband, Robert James Hamilton; a band player, Farmer, and Orangeman, who was proud to be Scots-Irish. (I do not know much of his family, only that his Mother died and Father remarried and he had a Half-Sister, Caroline, who came to Pgh, Pa, but returned and lived in Ireland.) Mary Jane had a Sister, Margaret Ginniff Ruddick, who stayed in Ireland. I have a picture of her...She started my search in Ireland. The picture intrigued me as on it was written a strange townland name in Ireland....After much searching a Libriarian in Ireland located the area where they lived, and I contacted my other cousin, living there, James Ginniff....now elderly, but very helpful. The other relative is a Maurice Ginniff, who is the family historian, and lives in England...He has no e-mail, but his son does...I have contacted him by e-mail, and his Father, Maurice sent me the Ginniff tree from the 1700s. In it is listed my Margaret Ruddock.

My cousin, Stan Thompson, online as well, is the ggs of Sara McComb...Daughter of Joseph.  He is elderly as well, has visited the Ginniff Farm, and toured the old farm..."The Hollow".  He sent me pictures of it...tho it is very old and run down now. However, the new house is LOVELY.....James's son runs the place today, and I understand is not into geneaology

I am searching for a ggf, ROBERT JAMES HAMILTON -b-1849, in Co Down, I think...He married my ggm, Mary Jane Ginniff in 1876, in Loughbrickland Church....it is her sister, Margaret Ginniff, Ruddock, that connects me to your Ruddocks

As I said in other letter, I am looking for my ggf's family the HAMILTONS...Other than what I said in last letter, his father is listed as a WM HAMILTON, and Mother as a JEAN ? However, relatives in Ireland, said his Father was not WM...His Mother was named JANE DEAN, and they had 12 kids....Near as the History center could learn...Does not agree with family lore....We only heard of his half-sister, Caroline Hamilton, after Rbts Mother died, father remarried and Caroline was born....She came to US to visit, and returned to Ire.

In answer to your request for sending you my family tree, here is what I know; According to Maurice Ginniff of England, my family of Ginniffs started with ;

Thomas & Mary Ginniff (He d-before 1864-Drumnahare, Co Down, Ire) Son-John-b-1813-d-1877-m-SaraJ. Fordice/Ferdice-b-1816-d-1849, Drumnahare. (8 children) Mary Jane-b-1853-m-1874-Rbt Hamilton.They sailed to USA in 1884. She d-1924-Pgh,Pa. (7Children)

Jane-b-1940-M-Lloyd Remly....There you have my Ginniff tree.

As for the Ruddocks: Mary Jan-b-1853, had Sister, Margaret Ginniff, b-1855-m-1876 to Joseph

Ruddick(He d-1921) All 4 Ginniff Daughters were married in the Loughbrickland Presbyterian

PS...The McFerran page you located , I have known about for some time...It mentions my gggf, John Ginniff, Brother to Joseph, who married Sarah Mc Ferran.
