NEW NOTES ON THE CUMMINS FAMILY IN DONAGHMORE

I had been told that Mary Ruddock had died and then William Cummins married Annie Elizabeth Porter (27

May 1863-1956). I was talking to William Cummins (02 Nov. 1852 - 22 Aug. 1918) granddaughter last night and she was very interested in the family as well. Her father was William Robert Cummins (11 Oct. 1891 - 30 Dec. 1947), a son of William who married Annie Porter.

William Sr. was buried in the Eglish Presbyterian Cemetery where my relatives are buried. At some time the Cummins family had lived in or near the townland of Cadian, Co. Tyrone. My great grandfather James Reid married Margaret Jane Cummins who fits into this family somewhere. I am trying to find her family. William Sr.'s father has to be a brother to my great grandmother. I have not been able to make this connection. I have written to Gordon Cummins, Ringclare Rd. Donaghmore, Newry, Co. Down but have not had a reply yet. It has to come by snail mail so it could take some time, also he is 81 yrs. old.

The information I have is about William and his brothers and sisters and also the family of William Robert Cummins. Do you have any information that could help me to make my connection? This has been a question for the two families for a few years. We knew there was a connection but until I started this no one had done anything about it.

My husband's family were the Robinson's from Killyleagh Parish, near Downpatrick, Co. Down. His family emigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1840 and settled there. Some of his relatives are buried in the Killyleagh Churchyard. He has been in touch with a lady that works for the church so she was able (for a fee) to get him a fair amount of information.

My mother and father were both born near Eglish, Co. Tyrone as were my four older brothers. My father James Reid emigrated to Chilliwack, B.C. in 1925 and my mother with the four boys in 1926. Two other brothers and myself were born in Canada.

I am also eager to find out when the Cummins were in the Eglish area. My Dad amd William Robert Cummins were second cousins and they knew each other in Ireland, I think. They have all passed away so I have to look elsewhere to try to make the connection.

Through the Family Research Centre I have found some marriages and births of Cummins in Dungannon and the Newry area but do not know where they fit in.

The information that I have obtained is that William Cummins (1852 - 1918) married _______Ruddock in the 1870's. She died ca 1886. He remarried an Annie Elizabeth Porter in 1888 and had 10 children.

This William Cummins was a cousin to my grandfather. My great grandfather married Margaret Jane Cummins of townland of Cadian, Co. Tyrone, where the Cummins originated. She is buried in the Eglish Presbyterian Cemetery as is William Cummins.

William Cummins and his first wife, ------Ruddock, lived in Newry , Co. Down on the Home Farm of Ringclare, where I believe some of the Cummins family still live.

David Gordon Cummins (1889 - 1980) was a farmer and his wife was a teacher at Donaghmore School for a number of years.

I am interested in finding the brothers and sisters or parents of my great grandmother, Margaret Jane Cummins ( ca 1840 - 1927).

If you have any information I would certainly like to receive it. I have more recent info on the Cummins family.
