Situated in north east Wales, Flintshire boarders the counties Cheshire (East), Denbighshire (West) and Wrexham (South). Flint and Mold are the main towns located in this county, but Holywell and Hawarden are also of interest to researchers. The county was established in 1284 by Edward I, seven years after construction began on Flint Castle. The remains of the castle are pictured at the right. Here is another view of the castle. At that time, the county was made up of three totally seperate areas, and it remained that way until Henry VIII reorganized it in 1536. It was agian reorganized in 1974.
