I am not correcting them until we can prove which service IS our Charles Wood. I know he fought in the Revolution as that was passed down through his children's knowledge. Which service is the question and what state. I think it is going to be in VA but it could also be in NC if he served with his brother William. My husband's father was very ill the last three years and he died 11 months ago. Larry and I are just now getting things straighten out around here. I'm more than ready to get back to the Wood research and this puzzle of what is our Charles Wood service. DAR wants me (our family) to find and prove his service then for me to send in the corrected documentation. This is a first they tell me .......meaning that our pension is very unique - "screwed up". The information is what the dept of War sent to Caleb's attorney. They messed it up and it's stayed that way since 1850's. This is the process for correcting DAR and SAR papers. We absolutely must prove Charles service. We owe it to our ancestor guys to get this corrected. David T. are there any new pieces of evidence? I never believed that Charles had the middle name of Caleb, by the way. That was what Jack Wood sent to me. I sure would want to know more about the Revolutionary War service of our Charles Wood, when you find out. So, our SAR supplemental application was all wrong, eh? We have lost contact with each other in the last few years. We do have new paper documentation and it's backed up with DNA testing. DNA testing is proving lineages and disproving them as well. It's a wonderful new tool. I have helped pay for numerous men to DNA test in the Wood DNA project. First of all two male descendants of Caleb Wood (married Polly Oliver) from different sons have tested. One male from Francis Wood (son of John Wood of Amherst Co, VA) has tested. Other males from various sons of John Wood's family line have tested. All of the above are a perfect DNA match - they descend from a common Y-Chromosome male Wood. One or two males from Charles Wood of Frederick Co, MD have tested and they do NOT DNA match our family. Thus, after decades science has proven that we are NOT related in any form to this Charles Wood. What a blessing to finally know the truth of that. Research or paper documentation does NOT show that our Charles Wood had a middle name of Caleb. We find no proof that Charles Wood's wife Rosa was a Watson. In fact, we cannot find where that information even came from ! David and I proved that our Charles Wood (md Rosa) is NOT the same Charles Wood of either service listed in his Rev. War pension that our Caleb applied for in 1852. Since I did the original research on our Charles service I knew that two men's service records were listed in that pension. I had disproved one of those listed in the pension and it appeared to be the second service was our Charles Wood's. But, that has been prove now to not be the case. Both of the service records belong to Charles Wood a mercenary from Ireland who fought for the American Revolution out of Orange Co ,NC. He was in SIX different units during the war and did receive a pension for his service. In a court record that David found we see all of those company units listed with him giving dispositions of this fellow army men in detail so they could get a pension. WE are now trying to prove which military service belongs to our Charles Wood in VA and NC but not SC. I read the Amherst and surround counties of VA tax rolls up to 1800 and found our Charles Wood in the exact district as his brothers. We can pinpoint what year he left. We are looking into his brother William Wood that removed to SC by 1790 (the one that was disinherited in his father's Will). He received a pension in TN. Our Charles Wood did fight in the American Revolution but his pension is so messed up that it's unbelievable. It was probably why Caleb and his bro/sisters were denied the pension. Our Charles Wood did serve in the revolution but which company and what state is still being researched. I am making another trip to the LDS library in November and hopefully will be able to get more what David needs at that time. And yes, what David has sent you is 100% proven and I help him when I can. Keep in touch with us more from sunny Hawaii !!
