Butts Co., GA. The town of Lovejoy, GA was named for Louisa's father.

George W. Barber was among the early settlers of Butts County and lived on his
large plantation operated by many slaves. His home was in east Butts Co, on
the Pittman's Ferry Rd or HIghway 16 near Pleasant Grove Church. (If it stil
exists) The home is a large two-story building with box-like supporting
columns on a broad varanda To the back extends an ell containing the ding
room and kitchen.

It was one of the most imposing residences in its day and sat in a large grove
of oaks, surrounded by a beautiful old-fashioned garden of boxwood, althea,
crepe myrtle and other old-time flowers.

.......George W. Barber died in 1883 and his wife in 1879 at the age of 80
years. Both are buried in the Barber family cemetery east of the Barber home

One of the sons, George Samuel Barber, continued to live with his father and

>From the History of Butts.....

Iron Spring
The community of Iron Spring is located east of Jackson in part of the old
first and ninth districts of Henry Co., now Butts Co. This area received its
name from a spring discovered by the early settlers on the Higgin' land. The
water had a taste of iorn, hence the name Iron Spring.

This is one of the older communities of the county. Early settlements are
found where old Indian trading posts were once situated. If not the exact
spot, they are not far removed from the locality which was considered by the
Indians as a good point near a reiver. This area could have been a large
INdian settlement since there is an old Indian cemetery located near the Iron
Spring Community House.

It is difficult to mention with any degree of accuracy the names of the
peioneer citizens who lived in the Iron Spring area and helped to develop the
community. Among them, however, may be memtioned the names
of.............Matthew Barber, Joseph Barber, Josiah
