I would like to encourage any male descendants of George Barber who died before 1750 in Augusta County, Virginia to participate in the Barber family DNA project at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/barber/ Just click on the link that says "Join this Project." We have an exact match for 37 markers between a descendant of George Barber who married Margaret Watkins and a descendant of Plyer Barber who married Amy. George and Plyer are known to be brothers.

I would also like to encourage any male descendants of James Barber and his wife Penelope to test with Family Tree DNA. There are two identical matches for 67 markers with descendants of Gray Barber and Allen Barber, who were both sons of James Barber and Penelope. But we also have a match for 66 out of 67 matches for a descendant of Moses Barber, who was born 1755-1760 and died about 1800 in Chatham County, North Carolina. So we need more tests to determine their exact relationship. But there is a 95.27% probability that Moses Barber and James Barber had a common ancestor. We have also discovered that the William Barber that married Rachel Daniell in 1810 in Clarke County, Georgia is also closely related to to James Barber. William and Rachel also attended the Mars Hill Baptist Church at the same time as James and Penelope. Plus, James is also closely related to Littleton Barber, who was also related to Asa Barber.

Finally, if you are a male descendant of James C. Markham, born 1807, Thomas Markham, born 1813, Nimrod Markham, born 1818, John Bunyon Markham, born 1819, Carroll Markham, born 1822, or Francis Marion Markham, born 1827, please consider testing with Family Tree DNA. We do have a close match with descendants of Nimrod Markham, John Bunyon Markham, and Carroll Markham.
