Sanctuary of St. Stephen's Church, Passau

|
St. Stephen's is
considered
one of the finest of its type in Europe. Stucco has been used to
create literally
hundreds of statues and to cover the ceiling with beautiful frescoes.
The project took the artists 17 years to complete!
St. Stephen's also
houses the
largest church organ in the world which claims no fewer than 17,388
pipes and 231 stops. There actually
are four or five different organs that either can be played
independently or simultaneously by one organist. The organs are
located strategically around the church so that music can seem to come
from almost any direction and all are cleverly hidden from direct
sight.
