St. Gangolf
Church, the city’s Market Church, is the tall tower on the south side
of the Hauptmarkt, but setting
back behind a row of buildings.
St. Gangolf
Church rivaled the
Cathedral, the "Dom," in beauty and again, it was a bone of contention
with the
Prince-Bishop. He believed it effectively distracted from the Dom in
the hearts and minds of the people.
The doorway to St. Gangolf
Church, although relatively unpretentious, is beautifully
decorated but is sandwiched between two houses
facing the square. As a point of reference, the entryway is the
small gray and white portico lying directly behind the head of the man
in the plaid shirt.
