HESTON FAMILY

 

Zebulon Heston was born about 1670 in Heston Parish, Middlesex, England. In 1683 he set sail for the colonies accompanied by a Mr. Wiggins. Soon after arriving at Eastham, Barnstable Co., MA, Zebulon went to Newtown, Long Island, NY. By 1697 he was settled at Burlington, NJ where he married Dorothy Hutchinson at Hopewell in 1698.

While living in NJ, Zebulon and Dorothy had four children. Between 1707 and 1711 they moved to Bucks Co., PA where they completed a family of nine. Their daughter, Mary married John Lacey and became the mother of John Lacey, Jr. who was a general in the Revolutionary War.

Among the other children of Zebulon and Dorothy was Zebulon Jr. b. 4 Jan 1701/02. He married Elizabeth Buckman 22 June 1726 at Wrightstown, Bucks, PA. She was the daughter of William Buckman and wife, Elizabeth who emmigrated from England on the ship Welcome in the company of William Penn. Zebulon Jr. was a Quaker minister. The Wrightstown Monthly Meeting Minutes for 1773 records the following: 1d-6m-1773-Zebulon Heston signifies a concern to visit the Indians beyond the Ohio River. 6d-7m-1773-"as our friend Zebulon is an antient (sic) man the meeting is informed that John Lacey, Jr. proposes to accompany his Uncle Zebulon". 5d-10m-1773-Zebulon Heston having performed his Religious visit to some of the Indian tribes living to the Westward of this province and being at the meeting produced a Belt with a copy of the speech made thereon by the Indians after a Meeting held with them for Divine Worship. The minutes state that the belt was given to the Committee for Relief of Sufferings.

Zebulon Jr. and Elizabeth had a family of 10 children. Son Zebulon III was born 18 Jan 1732/33. He married Sarah Burgess whose grandfather Samuel Burgess emmigrated from England and settled on 200 acres of land purchased of William Penn.

Zebulon III and Sarah Burgess were married in 1756 at Buckingham Montlhy Meeting, Bucks Co., PA. They were the parents of 10 children among whom was Sarah born in 1766. Sarah married John Ballard and moved west to Ohio.
