He married VIVIAN SIMMONS on May 19, 1945 in Geneva County, AL. They had one child. Some people called him R.K. Probably because his name was pronounced Ahl K.

Although Olk never learned to read or write he spent many years working in the aircraft industry and made a good life for his wife and daughter. He lived to see his two grandchildren and was very close to his family. He spent many years taking care of his wife who suffered from severe arthritis and heart problems. Olk suffered from an eye disease called macular degeneration. He died less than a year after his wife while taking a stress test to check for heart problems.
