G.D. married BERTHA THORN on July 20, 1935 in Sellarsville, AL in Geneva County. They were married by Rev Dave Marshall.

G.D. was the oldest child of Dock WEEKS and LEITA HARRISON and like all the rest he grew up knowing how to work. He had to work in the fields when he was very young. All the children had to work just to help keep their family going and to keep food on the table.

G.D. and BERTHA had two sons and five grandchildren. In their later years he and Bertha lived next door to their youngest son Emmitt. Bertha had a stroke and had to be kept in a nurcing facility but G.D. continued to live there until his death. His daughter-in-law Pearl Weeks went to his home check on him and found him dead from an apparent heart attack.
