DOCK W WEEKS was born January 29, 1889 in Coffee County, Alabama, and died February 16, 1970 in Geneva County, Alabama. His first wife was LEITA (Lettie) HARRISON WOOD. They were married June 24, 1915 in Geneva County, Alabama by the Rev F P Harrison. After Lettie's death Dock married ROSA INEZ CASTLEBERRY on February 11, 1925.

Dock raised his children with a firm hand. They had to work the fields to help make a living for the family. None of the older children were able to get much of an education. He was a tuff and maybe a hard man but he loved his family in his own way. His children called him Popper(that is southern for papa) and so his grandchildren called him Popper Weeks. He smoked cigars for many years and you could always tell when he had been to your house even if you weren't home because you could smell his cigar. As long as he was alive there would be hog killings at his house and all of his children and grandchildren had to help. Hogs were killed and the meat was cut up and hung in the smoke house to cure. Nothing was wasted, even the intestines were cleaned and used for sausage. Dock always believed that if one of his children had food and another needed some it should be devided. Many times a whole hog was bar-b-qued in a big pit that the boys had dug. I can still see him sitting in a straight chair with a cowhide bottom on his back porch. Until the day he died every child he had respected him and pretty much did what he told them to even though they were grown with children of thier own.
