The lineages of the Dingeman and Maurits families are originally from
Nederhemert in the outermost SE of the Bommelewaard. In 1515 the stem
father
is mentioned as Dingen Van Wijck. The probable stem father was Dingen
Peters:Peter Celekens. The first name Dingeman is a 2 stem Germanic
name
from "ding" (session of the court, or lawsuit) and "man" a flattery
suffix.
The Dingeman and Maurits branches have identical coats of Arms. Used
almost
exclusively as a seal therefore no colors appear until 16th &17th
centuries.
The names were later at Bruchem. The 2 branches belonged to the
oligarchish
group of heredity farmer families. Half the number were aldermen. both
branches have had 3 seats in the Hoge Bank of Zuilchem. Listed also as
"well
to do" Hops farmers.

Notes for KARL WILLIAM DINGEMAN:
Karl was a football player in HS and injured his knee . When Karl was
injured the whole town was sad.
He was in WW1 as a pharmacists mate on board the ship USS Kroonland.
This
was a hospital ship and crossed back and forth to pick up the wounded
and
bring them back to the States. They had shows on board ship to
entertain the
men and Karl was quite the actor. A buddy of Karls was engaged to a
lovely
girl and when he died of the terrible flu, Karl paid a condolence call
on
the young lady (none other than Inez), they began to date and soon were
in
love.
Karl returned to school after the war and became a Pharmacist. He then
went
to work for the Penslar Drug CO. as a salesman. He was so good that he
was
soon promoted to General Sales Manager and moved to Detroit, MI. The
family
remained in Grand Rapids, with Karl commuting weekends.
After a mild heart attack, Karl retired but was soon bored with sitting
around and went to work as a salesman for the Stout Sign Co. traveling
again
all over northern MI.
Karl and Inez eventually did retire to Pompano Beach. But never one to
sit,
Karl bought a boat, The Dingee and was soon teaching courses on water
safety. The folks loved Florida and the boat and had a wonderful 8
years
together there.
Notes for INEZ LOUISE SHAFFNIT:
Inez was an only daughter, tagging along after two big brothers. When
she
first started school in Des Moines, she broke her leg and then
transferred
to the nearer by RC School. The nuns would meet Letta at the walk and
transport Inez in her little red wagon to school.
Inez inherited to her father's remarkable talent in music and played
the
piano and sang. Her father bought her a Baby Grand when she was 12 and
she
began voice lessons. After High School, Inez went to live in Chicago
with
her Uncle Dan and Aunt Vic so she could study more seriously. She
worked
part time in a bank. Eventually she was to sing in a Light Opera
Company.
She continued to sing the rest of her life. In Grand Rapids after they
moved
there, she was a paid soloist at the big Methodist Church.
Inez returned to GR after Karl died and resumed her friendships. She
traveled to see her son and family first in Detroit, then Chicago and
finally in NJ. Inez developed Breast Cancer , but survived another 20
years.
She died in GR at the Porter Hills Retirement Center. She is buried
beside
Karl in the Wooldlawn Cemetery in GR.
