From the 1730's both parents were noted on baptismal records. The parish records of the time were seemingly haphazard because details of baptisms and marriages were recorded together rather than in separate registers as became the practice later. By the early 19th. century, parish records were changed so that additional details were recorded. With baptismal records these included the father's occupation and place of abode. Marriage records grew to include occupations of the bride and groom and their respective fathers' occupations and the parish in which the married couple were living when married. The census was first recorded in 1801 and that, too, grew to include more details of the individuals noted. For most of the early names on the family tree they will remain nothing more than that, just names with dates attached, although as time passed and record taking became more thorough it is possible to put some 'meat' on the 'bare bones'. |
