DIANE'S STORY: For a long time I have loved reading stories and autobiographies about a wide range of people. Family history began to intrigue me, and then one day in 2001 my eldest daughter Sally brought home a book which had stories of a member of my mother's family - the Keatings of Woodend, Victoria. Unbeknown to me, my mother's cousin Lyn Kennedy (nee Mullett) was also researching our family. She wrote "The definitive impetus came from Diane Cummings, grandaughter of Leslie Mullett, who rang me late one evening in 2001 saying she was trying to find information about her family background. And so the fascinating investigation was born! To understand why and how things happened as they did, it became necessary to trawl through some of the genealogical information, which is now more readily available to seekers using the Internet. It is Diane who has undertaken most of the painstaking work in this regard. She has also been indefatigable in following leads and calling or e-mailing people who might have clues to help us unravel the tangle of dates and names. The journey has been, by turn, tedious, exhilarating and full of unexpected revelations. Along the way we have found some wonderful and very helpful people, both relatives and complete strangers." This work began as a search for my mother's family. Along the way I have met some wonderful people who have shared their memories with me. THANK YOU EVERYONE. We all hope that you will enjoy our story too. NOTES: My Research began with a limited knowledge of family, but has since broadened immensely. I am sure others feel that same thrill of pleasure when someone finds a missing piece to their family puzzle. I have made concerted efforts to collect this data from reliable sources. They should not be uncritically accepted as fact, but used only to guide your own researches. Facts cannot be copyrighted. I prefer using graphics that are relevant to our people and the way they lived. Without them, these pages would be dull indeed. Any and all copyrighted graphics are acknowledged as of their respective owners. Please understand that, wherever possible, I have drawn a line on information after 1940 to indicate my respect for the privacy of the living. INEVITABLY, when we search for a family line, there are times when we feel the need to follow a line 'just in case it's ours'.
