He left Ireland for America and lived there for seven years before coming to Australia. He married Harrieta (Louisa ?) Dunkley in 1878, settled in New Zealand, had five children there, and died in 1934 aged 90. Agnes DOUGLASS was born June 3, 1846 in Tergoland (Dungiven), Ireland Shipping Records into Melbourne indicate an AGNES DOUGLAS (22) and a ROBERT DOUGLAS (20) arrived Melbourne in August 1868 on board the "WHITE STAR" (B.277/006) Agnes was working at the Caralulup Hotel prior to her marriage to Thomas Barnes on April 10, 1873. She died at Laen (near Donald, Victoria) on Feb 6, 1885 leaving her husband with five young children. Samuel DOUGLASS was born June 24, 1847 in Tergoland (Dungiven), Ireland He married Mary Carmichael there, and had two daughters. Joseph DOUGLASS was born Jan 15, 1853 in Tergoland (Dungiven), Ireland He married Margaret Gray (sister of James' wife Christina) established a farm in Cowra, NSW and had nine children. |

PLEASE NOTE: From here onwards the place names are all in Victoria, Australia He married Elizabeth More on March 2, 1876. Their first six children were born at Caralulup. They purchased NORWOOD from Mr Alfred Joyce at an auction held at the McIvor Hotel, Maryborough on February 11, 1887. John Douglass, Mr Ross and Mr Porteous were among the original shareholders of the Wareek Sheep Dip Company. John DOUGLASS died at Norwood on Jan 21, 1919 aged 79. At the time his family owned 1133 acres. His wife Elizabeth More died on December 31, 1928 at Norwood. Their 15 children: Margaret, Jane, James Rankin, Elizabeth, Agnes, Isabella, Annie May, Elsie Mabel, John Norwood, Leslie Alexander, Robert Allan, Samuel Arthur, Joseph Harold, Jessie and George Stuart.
