Welcome to the Dick Family Ancestry Website!
Our ancestors were German citizens who immigrated to Russia in the 1700's and then again to the United States in the late 1800's and early 1900's.

Heinrich and Dora (Weber) Dick Family.
Back Row: Henry, Anna, Philip, Conrad Peter, John, Katherine
Front Row: Heinrich, Dorothea

Heinrich and Dorothea Dick were descendants of the German families who emigrated to the Volga River area of Russia during the reign of Catherine the Great in the 1700's. They were granted free land, the right to establish colonies in which they could preserve their own language, culture and religion, the right to build churches, the right to establish their own local government, and very important, freedom from military service.

In the late 1800's, during the reign of Alexander II, the laws were changing and the German colonists were being deprived of their special rights and, as a result, small groups of German-Russians began emigrating to the United States.

We, as their descendants, can be thankful they had the foresight and courage to leave Russia when they did and we can be thankful to them for choosing this land for their new home.

A special thank you to Marilyn McDaniel for her genealogy research of our family.
