  • Good morning, Virginia. My ancestor, John Ray, came to America with 5 children from County Tyrone, near Londonderry. They lived previously in the Firth of Forth in Scotland. The Rays landed in N.J. on Aug 5, 1818. Traveling west they settled in Indiana Co. near Pike's Peak. This wilderness homestead was acquired by the state in the 1960's and is now part of Yellow Creek State Park. Their children: Matthew, 1804-1887, m. Jane McCunn (there is a picture of their son, in CW attire at the IC HGS); Jane, 1806-; Thomas J., 1811-, m. Hannah Reese, a native of Wales; James, 1813-, m. Margaret Elwood; Robert R., 1816-1885, m. Agnes Dick; John, 1820-1904, m. Ann Dick and moved to Tennessee; George Washington, 1823-1888, m. Ann Lydick, 1826-1908 (my direct line) and settled on the family farm; Mary, 1825- m. Jesse Saltsgiver; Elizabeth, 1827- m. John R. Kinter; William M., 1830- m. Ellen Myers. Let me know if anything fits. Sounds like your Margaret is a few years older than John. . . (Copied from an unknown source).
