DAVID DICK was born about 1765 in Ireland, probably around Ulster. He immigrated to the US about 1799 and lived in Alexandria, VA. He was a self-employed shoemaker with a shop on Royal Street. He lived above the shop.
David died on 20 Mar 1833, and is buried in First the Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Alexandria, VA; Section 42, Grave 70.He was married three times.
The first time was to ELIZABETH. They had one daughter, MARGARET, born on 3 Jan 1799. His second wife was SARAH ANN POSEY. They were married on 18 Sep 1810 in Alexandria County, D.C.
There were no known children in this marriage. His third wife was MARY (MOLLY) ATWELL. They were married on 22 Feb 1823 in Alexandria County, D.C. They had a son, JOSEPH HENRY DICK, who was born on 23 Nov 1823. I don't know anything of daughter Margaret.
JOSEPH HENRY DICK served in the Mexican War as a Private in Company E of the Maryland and DC Regiment of the Mexican Volunteers in Buchannan's Battalion under Captain John Kinley and Colonel Watson. He participated in the battles of Monterey and Tampico. He mustered out in 1848, moved to Detroit briefly, then settled in Philadelphia. In 1857 he lived at "Brown above Hanover Streets" in the Kensington section of the city.
His first wife had been Jane McCartney. I don't know anything of her.He married Bridget GILLESPIE (b. 1830 in Ireland; d. before 1880 in Philadelphia) on 10 Oct 1856 (or 1857) in a ceremony at Saint Michael's Church.
