DESCRIPTION The Type 18 Periscope is designed for use on Los Angeles and Seawolf class submarines. It is a highly versatile, multi-purpose instrument, which provides a broad spectrum of RF intercept capability, targeting information, multiple levels of optical mag-nification, image intensification for low light level operation, color television monitoring of all optical modes, digital photography and power assisted train operation. The Type 18 optical design remains state-of-the-art today, supplying an exceptional electro-optical surveillance and reconnaissance capability for USN submarines.
