County Kerry

Basically if you are a Garvey from Kerry, then you are from the Dingle Penninsula. This is the group of Garveys that the historical account describes as "of the same stock as the O'Moriartys". (The Moriartys held land at the end of the bay south of the Dingle Penninsula). The account claims that the original Gaelic name of this group was O'Garbhain - which is Garvan in the original Anglised version.

A name by name transcription of the Griffith Valuation of Dunquin, Dunurlin, Marhin, and Kilquane civil parishes (Ballyferriter Catholic Parish) in County Kerry is available online here. The transcription includes the name of the individual along with the townland in which they owned or rented land. This is crucial information for Irish genealogy in that the individual's location must be known at the townland level before one can know which church registers to access for baptism, marriage, and burial records.
