On a trip to Portadown, County Armagh in 1982 I was able to locate the grandson, Thomas Garvey (b. 1905-06), of this James Garvey. Thomas' speech was a bit difficult to understand as he had neglected to put in his teeth that day - however I was able to learn a bit from him. He knew that his grandfather, "Jimmy", had been a teacher - and even remembered where the school had been. He believed that his line of Garveys had originally been from the city of Armagh.

James Garvey's grave is in the churchyard at Drumcree just outside Portadown. The gravestone gave the following information:
