Muscatine Journal -- May 28, 1927
Obituary -- Cornelius Herrick, 78, retired farmer, died at his home, 213 West Fifth Street, at 9:30 last evening, after an illness of several weeks with heart disease and complications. Mr. Herrick was born Nov. 13, 1848, in Albany, NY, being the son of Stephen and Gertrude Breese Herrick. At an early age, he moved to Iowa where he has resided since, living in Muscatine county for the past 50 years, and in Muscatine for the past seven. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. Herrick was married to Miss Eva Frey of Letts, March 25, 1879. Surviving Mr. Herrick are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Roy Baker, Muscatine, and two sons, Charles L. Herrick, Muscatine, and Arthur C. Herrick, Clinton. One son, Stephen, died in infancy, and one daughter, Mrs. Andrew Cole, died four years ago. Two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Lanning, Lyndon, IL, and Mrs. Cornelia Culbertson, Fairfield, IA, also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 PM Sunday at the home of Rev. Victor A. Bloomquist, paster of the Musserville Methodist Episcopal church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. The Wittich Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

C. Herrick -- farmer, Sec.11, P.O. Blue Grass; was born in New York in 1849, where he resided until he was 7 years old, removing thence with his parents to Iowa; located in Scott Co., near Davenport; remained two years; removed thence to Muscatine Co., where he has since remained, improving the farm on which he now resides, consisting of 120 acres. (His father, Stephen Herrick, was born in New York in 1811; his mother was Miss Gertrude Briece, also a native of New York.) Mr. H. married in February, 1879, Miss Eva Fry, daughter of Henry Fry. Mr. H. is a stanch Republican.

Mrs. Hattie Mae Baker, 52, wife of Roy R. Baker, a resident of Muscatine county all her life, died at 3:15 AM, today at Hershey hospital after a short illness. Her home was on rural route No. 5. She was born in Muscatine on Feb. 28, 1882, the daughter of Cornelius and Eva Fry Herrick. Her marriage to Roy R. Baker occurred on Jan. 17, 1907. Mrs. Baker was a member of the High Prairie Methodist Episcopal Church and was president of the Aid Society of that church. Surviving are her husband; her mother, Mrs. Eva Herrick; one daughter, Mrs. Lawrence J. Boshart, of Ainsworth; two brothers, A. C. Herrick, Muscatine; and C. C. Herrick, Letts; one grandson, Robert R. Boshart, Ainsworth. One sister, Mrs. A. E. Cole, died 12 years ago. The body is at the Fairbanks Home for Funerals and will remain there until Friday morning when it will be taken to the residence near High Prairie. Funeral services will be conducted ar 2 PM Saturday at the Fairbanks chapel by the Rev. W. H. Slack, pastor of the Musserville Methodist church and Dr. B. F. Schwartz, pastor of the First Methodist church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Obituary -- Died at the residence of his son-in-law, Dr. Charles Lanning, Muscatine, Iowa, Dec. 16, 1893, Dr. Stephen Herrick. Thus has passed away an aged citzen and a worthy Christian gentleman, and one highly esteemed throughout a large circle of acquaintances. He was born in the State of Vermont, September 15, 1810. While he was quite young, his parents removed to eastern New York. In early manhood, he began the study of medicine and graduated at a medical college in Philadelphia, Penn. He was married in October, 1839 to Miss Gertrude Briece, and he remained in New York and practiced medicine for about twenty years. He came to Iowa in 1855, and with the exception of a few years, had since resided in Muscatine county. His wife died a few years since. Three children survive him, viz; Mrs. Dr. Lanning of this city, Mrs. Culbertson, of Jefferson county, this State, and a son, who resides near Letts. The funeral service was held at Lettsville on Monday, Dec. 18th, and was conducted by Rev. J. F. Robertson. It was largely attended by his old friends and neighbors, all of whom bear testimony to his moral worth and Christian integrity.
