At Rochester, Minn. July 25, 1904, David Selix, aged 56 years. He was born in Whiteside county, Ill., Jan 16, 1847, and at the age of six years moved with he parents to Franklin county, Iowa. Hewas married in March 1881, to Mary Hanna. In October, 1902, he bought the Hayes farm, east of Lansing village, where he moved with his family. The widow and eleven children survive. The body was taken to Hampton, Iowa, for burial.[Franklin County (Iowa) Recorder, 27 Jul 1904]
David F. Selix was born in Whiteside County, Illinois, June 16, 1847, and with the family of his father, Simon Selix, came to Franklin County, settling in the eastern portion of Ingham township in 1856. He grew to manhood in this county, and was married to Mary Hanna, who survives him, in March 1881. To them were born twelve children, eleven of whom are now living. In October, 1902, the family removed to Lansing, Mower County, Minnesota. About ten days ago Mr. Selix was taken to the hospital at Rochester, Minnesota, for treatment, but it was of no avail, and he died last Monday, the 25th. The funeral services were held at the home at Lansing yesterday, and the remains accompanied by Mrs. Selix, the eldest son, Sheridan Selix, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Funnell, of Ingham township, arrived here this morning, and will be buried this afternoon in the Harlan Cemetery at Union Ridge, beside the members of the Selix family who are already buried there.

The death of Winifred Selix occurred Friday morning at 10 o'clock at the home of her mother near Lansing. Deceased was about twenty-one years of age. She taken seriously sick about six weeks ago with pneumonia and lung fever. After a few week of much suffering she was slowly gaining and the family were much encouraged and had hopes of her recovering but the sickness was too great for her already weak condition and death resulted Friday. Deceased leaves beside her mother, four sisters and six brothers, all living at home. The sorrowing mother and family have the sympathy of all. The father died only last summer at the Rochester hospital. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 1 o'clock from the house and the interment will probably be in the Lansing cemetery.

SHERIDAN SELIX
The following excerpts from an extended account of the death of Sheridan Selix taken from the Osceola (Wis.) Sun of Dec. 19, will interest Austin friends of Mr. Selix, who resided here a number of years ago. Sheridan Selix, employed by Zorn Auto Co. the past six months as an automobile salesman, was instantly killed yesterday morning at 12:20 o'clock when the automobile he was driving was struck by an Omaha passenger train at a crossing about three miles south of Stillwater on the Afton road. Mr. Selix had attended a meeting of the Oakland-Pontiac dealers and salesmen in St. Paul and presumably was on his way home when the accident occurred. According to members of the train crew his car was headed south and it is believed he had intended to drive to Hudson and cross the bridge there. No one knows just why he failed to see the train, as he was known to be a careful driver, but the windows of the car were of course frosted over, making it impossible to see out very clearly. The car was absolutely demolished. Mr. Selix was killed instantly, his body being carried for over 200 feet by the locomotive.
Sheridan Selix was the oldest son of David and Mae Selix. His father died when he was only 19 years old and he became the head of a family of eleven. He was ambitious and a hard worker, determined to make his way in the world. He gained an education and became a teacher, being superintendent of schools in a number of towns in Minnesota. While superintendent of schools at Becker, Minn., he was married to Miss Mable Donaldson of Tracy. Soon after their marriage they moved to Brookings, S. Dak., where he engaged in the banking and real estate business, being farm loan examiner for a group of banks in which he was interested. They moved from Brookings to Faribault in 1926, leaving there they moved to White Bear, where they lived for a year. Mr. Selix accepted a position with the Zorn Auto Co. of Osceola last June. He was the father of three children, one son passed away in 1926, and two sons, Virgil and Wendell, who with their mother survive. He is also survived by five brothers and four sisters: T. A.Selix, Brookings, S. Dak.; Burr Selix, Albert Lea, Minn; Louis Selix, Austin; Roy Selix, Lansing; Dewey Selix, Burbank, Cal.; Mrs. Lillian Blabaum, California; Mrs. Viola Regner, Austin; Mrs. Grace Zimmerman, White Bear; Miss Rose Selix, Los Angeles, Cal. The funeral was held the following Saturday in Tracy. Mr. Selix was a member of the Christadelphian Faith and felt it his high calling and privilege to enlighted mankind in the great truths of the Bible. His kind, sympathetic nature and his keen perception of the needs of humanity endeared him to all with whom he came in contact. He was never too busy to give a word of encouragement and helpfulness to all. He was a student of untiring patience and unselfish devotion to the accomplishment of his one great ambition. This trait of character was confirming by the many manuscripts which he had prepared in recent years and were ready to go to press at the time of his tragic death.

General Notes:After working on his parents farm as a boy in Iowa, Alfred started his first job on his 18th birthday. He worked as a farmhand for a neighbor named John Helwinkel. He worked seven days a week for $30.00 per month. His second job was also as a farmhand for Mr. Otto Winkelhorst , both in Rock County, MN. Shortly after Alfred and Eva were married, they moved to Ann Lake, near Mora, MN. Later they lived near Princeton, MN, and then to Osseo where they lived the rest of their long lives. In Osseo he worked for the Osseo Lumber Co. He also worked many odd jobs on his own such as taking down old houses and buildings to salvage the materials that were good, and taking care of other peoples lawns. Even in his 80's and 90's he still loved working in his garden and on his yard. In the winter he liked working in his garage building dog houses to sell and straightening out used nails. He had a dog named Ben that rarely left his side . He drove his car, a 1965 T-Bird until he was approximately 92 years old. He loved it when the family got together and had a good sense of humor. I, Steven Hakanson, helped my grandfather with lots of his projects, and he set me up with lots of grass mowing jobs in my teen years. I know that he loved the Lord with all his heart!

Marian Katherine Graves, 75, Austin, died Sunday, June 18, 2000 at St. Marks Lutheran Home. Marian was born Oct 7, 1924, at Albert Lea, the daughter of Roy and Hazel (King) Selix. She lived and attended school in the Austin and Albert Lea area, graduating from Austin High School in 1942. She worked for the Geo. A. Hormel Co., where she met her husband, Donald D. Graves, and they were married April 22, 1946 in Caledonia, Minn. They purchsed land in Brownsdale, where they built their home and were members of the Brownsdale United Methodist Church. There were seven children born to this union. The Graves enjoyed many years fishing at Leech Lake and gardening. Following the death of her husband, Marian continued to enjoy traveling and spending time with her family. Marian devoted her life to her children and their families, who along with her many friends will miss her warm smile and laughter.
Marian was preceded in death by her busband, one grandchild, Michael A. Thompson, and her parents. She is survived by children and spouses, Donna (Don) Salisbury, Reno, NV; Bobbi (Dean) Thompson, Ames, IA; Jay Graves, Reno, NV, David Graves, Charlotte, NC; Marcia (David) Vold, Faribault, MN; Jerry Graves, Brownsdale, Bradley (Bernie) Graves, Albert Lea; 23 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, sisters, Ruth Mitchell, Sacramento, CA; Lola Olson, Colorado Springs, CO; brother, Donald Selix, Ellensburg, WA, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 am, 23 Jun 2000 at the Brownsdale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald D. Budd, officiating. Casket bearers were Jeffrey Thompson, Elizabeth Thompson, Melissa Graves, Rheannon Graves, Michelle Turner and Donald Graves, grandchildren of Marian.
Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery in Brownsdale.
