See tables following, where the modal values for all 67 markers are shown.

*DYS 389-1 and 389-2 are overlapping markers, and a single mutation in the overlapping sector shows as a change in both markers.

To avoid double-counting, only the difference (DYS 389-2 – DYS 389-1) is considered, and shown in the DYS 389b column. The

values for DYS 389-1, which has a modal value of 13, are not shown, since only the differences are significant.

Families in Cluster 2

DEV 8:   Dennis Devine, born 1826, Loughrea, County Galway, farmhand in Yellow Springs Ohio, 1860; listed as

   DeWine, 1860, 1870  (37)

DEV 17: Martin Devine, born about 1805 County Roscommon, living there 1853, living Norwich, New York, 1869,

   died before 1880. (37)

DEV 24: Patrick Devine, living Mullingar, County Westmeath, about 1827, when son Michael was born. (37)

DEV 29: John Divan, born Churston Ferrers, County Devon, England, about 1615 of Huguenot ancestry, to Lynn,

   Massachusetts by 1652. (67)

DEV 43: William Divine, born Ireland 1855, in Indiana at 1889 birth of son John. (37)

DEV 48: Edmund Davin, born Drangan Parish, County Tipperary 1843, to Boston Massachusetts as Devin. (67)

DEV 57: Lt. Hugh Devine, in Dublin 1848 at birth of son Henry Plunkett Devine, named for father’s commander. (37)

DEV 58: Denis Dewane, born Roscrea, County Tipperary, 1800. (37)

DVY2: Cornelius Devinney, Strabane, County Tyrone, to United States 1854. (37)

DVY3: Samuel Devenny, born Ireland 1842, to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by 1878 when son Samuel was born. (37)

The greater number of variations from either the cluster modal values that represent a central tendency, or from each

other, suggests that the common ancestor to all members of this cluster lived considerably further in the past than those

of Clusters 1 and 4, perhaps as early as the first use of hereditary surnames in the Tenth to Twelfth Centuries.

Samples DEV 24 and DEV 57 differ from the modal values by 11 and 13 steps respectively, but are distant from each

other by only six steps. They are sufficiently close to be related to each other as distant cousins. Their common Devine

ancestor probably lived within the last 12 generations or 400 years.
