The obituaries here are primarily from a scrapbook of clippings kept by Anna Deubel Seaberg (5 Sep 1900-10 Jul 2000) and are reproduced as a tribute to her friendships, and as a courtesy to other researchers. Most record deaths in Fairfield County, Connecticut. Newspaper, publication dates and page numbers are given, where known.

RADILE
In Danbury, June 8, 1968. Louis Fred Radile, 62, of 8 Romanock Place, Fairfield, formerly of Stony Hill Dist., Bethel, died in Danbury Hospital early this morning. He had been a patient there for a week. A resident of Fairfield for 10 years, he was employed as office manager for John L. Senior of Ridgefield. He formerly resided in Bethel for many years, and was at one time plant manager for the Clark Box Co. of Danbury. He was born in New York City April 25, 1906, son of the late Louis J. and Honora Reen Radile. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Berlane Neuland Radile; a son, David M. Radile of Riverdale, Md; a daughter, Miss Judith A. Radile of Blandensburg, Md.; a brother, Joseph Radile of Yonkers, N.Y.; three sisters, Mrs. Jeremiah Murphy of Amawalk, N.Y.; Mrs. Gannon Donnelly of Cresco, Pa., and Mrs. Grace Karas of Far Rockaway, N.Y. The funeral will be held from the John C. Freeland Funeral Home, 91 West St., Monday morning at 8:15, and at St. Peter's Church at 9 for a high mass of requiem. Friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 and tomorrow from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

RAYMOND
Mrs. Theodore I. Raymond. Danbury-Mrs. Harriet Holdeichel, 76, widow of Theodore I. Raymond of 100 Franklin street, died last evening in Danbury hospital. She was born in Danbury June 9, 1883, a daughter of the late Adolph and Pauline (Seifert) Holdeichel. She was a member of the First Congregational church and its Women's association. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Earl V. Bishop of Truro, Mass., and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held from The Hull Home, 60 Division street, Friday morning at 11 o'clock with the Rev. Harold E. Craw, minister of the First Congregational church officiating. Burial will be in Wooster cemetery. The funeral home will be open Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. [Danbury News-Times, Wednesday, April 29, 1959].

REPP
In Brewster, N.Y., Dec. 20, 1955. Philip Joseph Repp, 90, a former partner in the R.F. Baker Bottling Co. here, died Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gerard Mergardt, Tonetta Lake road, Brewster, N.Y. He was born July 14, 1865, son of the late Nicholas and Emily Repp, and attended Danbury schools. His marriage to the former Catherine Falls took place in Newtown on Dec. 26, 1907. Mr. Repp had been a tip printer until he became a partner in the bottling firm from which he retired when he moved to Brewster 14 years ago. He was a communicant of the Church of St. Lawarence O'Toole in Brewster, and formerly of St. Joseph's church in Danbury. He was an honorary life member of Danbury lodge of Elks; a member of McGivney council, Knights of Columbus, and of the Concordia society. He is survived, in addition ot Mrs. Mergardt, by a son, Walter Repp of Tice, Fla., and four grandchildren, Gerard, Mary Lou, Katy Lynn and Jeannette Mergardt, all of Brewster. The body was taken to the Brewster funeral home, 16 Prospect street, Brewster, N.Y. A requiem mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Lawrence O'Toole. Burial will be in St. Peter's cemetery, Danbury. The Brewster funeral home will be open this evening from 7 to 9 o'clock and on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. [Danbury News-Times, Wednesday, Dec. 21, 1955].

Walter P. Repp, 84, of P.O. Box 160, Warne, N.C., died Feb. 21, 2002 at the Emory University Medical Center in Atlanta, Ga., after a brief illness. He was born in Danbury, March 12, 1917, son of the late Philip Joseph Repp and Catherine Falls. A graduate of Danbury High School, he served as a Link Flight Training Instructor in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. After the war, he helped run Ed's Fireplace Grill on Route 7 with his wife, the former Doris Schulze of Bethel, and her parents, the late Eddie and Pauline Deubel Schulze. In 1950, Mr. Repp and his wife moved to Ft. Myers, Fla., where he owned his own business. In 1980, they retired to North Carolina. In March, they were to move to Ithaca, N.Y. to live with their daughter, Sandra Repp. Mr. Repp was a member of the Warne NC Fire Department and the American Legion. He was precedeased by a sister, Jeannette (Mrs. Gerard) Mergardt of Brewster, N.Y. In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by a granddaughter, Anne Seichepin of Ithaca, N,Y., a nephew, Rod Mergardt of Bedford Hills, N.Y.; and three nieces, Mary Lou Zinser of Danbury and Katie Brown and Bunny Hayward of San Diego, Calif. Following cremation, a private service will be held in Ithaca, N.Y. Contributions may be made to your local Heart Association.

REYNOLDS
In Bridgeport, Feb. 8, 1960. Mrs. Ellen Seaberg Reynolds, 76, a former resident of Bethel and wife of Warren S. Reynolds, Sr., of 15 Sherwood drive, Westport, died Monday in the Sylvan Manor Convalescent hospital, here. She had been a patient since Dec. 12, 1950. Mrs. Reynolds was born in Sweden and had lived in Westport since 1946. Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. C. Armand Merritt, of Garden City, L.I.; two stepsons, Warren S. of Stratford, and John F. of Huntington; four sisters, Mrs. Wilbur Stryker and Mrs. Charles Clapp, both of Bethel; Mrs. Thomas Feeley of Danbury and Mrs. John B. Nichols of Stratford; a brother, George Seaberg, of Bethel, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held in the Charles H. Lewis Funeral home, 210 East State street, Westport, Thursday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Gibson I. Daniels, minister of the Saugatuck Congregational church, officiating. Burial will be in Lawncroft cemetery, Fairfield. The funeral home will be open Wednesday afternoon and evening from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9.

RICE
[handwritten: Week of Apr 11, 1994] Eben B. Rice, a native of Danbury, died last week at his home in Smyrna, Ga. He was the husband for 56 years of Evelyn Turner Rice. Born Sept. 10, 1908, he was a son of Harry S. and Ada M. Sweet Rice. He graduated from Danbury High School and attended Albany Business College, Albany, N.Y. A certified public accountant, he conducted his own business in Atlanta, Ga., for the past 60 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Edward B. Rice of Ackworth, Ga., a brother, Richard S. Rice of Green Valley, Ariz., and several nieces and nephews. Burial was in Westview Cemetery, Atlanta. RIDGEWAY
[handwritten: Oct. 13, 1972]. Mrs. Jeanette Ridgeway, 67, widow of Frank Ridgeway Sr. of Danbury, died Friday at the home of her son Frank Jr. in Van Nuys, Calif. She was born in Danbury on April 15, 1905, and was a member of St. Thomas church in Bethel. Her son Frank Ridgeway Jr. of Van Nuys, creator of the comic strip Mr. Abernathy is her only survivor. Funeral services will be at the Praise Water Funeral Home, 5849 Van Nuys Blvd., Van Nuys, Calif. tomorrow at 7 p.m. Burial will be at the Wooster Cemetery, Danbury at a date to be announced.

ROCANO
In Danbury, June 4, 1968. Mrs. Mabel Hornig Rocano, 67, of 11 Clapboard Ridge Rd., wife of Henry A. Rocano, died at Danbury Hospital yesterday afternoon. She had been a patient there since Sunday. Mrs. Rocano, a well known business woman, had been associated with her husband in Rocano's Store at 22 White Street, for many year. Her specialty was the women's wear department. Her husband, a business leader in the community for many years, was a former member of the Board of Education. He also served on the former city Board of Estimate and Taxation and on the Joint Tax Board. Mrs. Rocano was born in Danbury July 12, 1900, the daughter of the late Jean and Anna (Baker) Hornig. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and its Woman's Guild. A graduate of Danbury High School, Class of 1918, she majored in physical education at Arnold College, and taught in the Danbury school system. She was a member of the Danbury Garden Club, the Danbury Musical Society, the Danbury Hospital Auxiliary, and the Ridgewood County Club. She was a volunteer worker at the hospital. She leaves her husband; two brothers, Howard Hornig of White Plains, N.Y.; and Jean Hornig of Danbury; and a niece. The funeral will be held from the John C. Freeland Funeral Home, 91 West St., Friday at 9:15 a.m. and in St. Joseph's Church at 10 a.m. with a solemn mass of requiem. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.

SCHLITTER
[no date] Geraldine D. Staib Schlitter, 90, of 31 Hicock Drive, Southbury, died Monday at Watertown Convalarium. She was the wife of the late Royal M. Schlitter Sr. Born in Bethel, Feb. 10, 1907, she was a daughter of Henry and Elvira Seaberg Staib. Following her marriage, she lived in Danbury for many years before moving to live with her daughter Geraldine Nelson, in Southbury in 1992. During World War I she volunteered as an aide at Danbury Hospital. She enjoyed nature and gardening. Besides her daughter Geraldine, she is survived by a son, Royal M. Schlitter Jr. of New Fairfield; two other daughters, Jane E. Shepard of Derry, N.H. and Barbara Napier of Waldorf, Md.; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Contributions may be made to the Southbury Volunteer Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 1002, Southbury, CT 06488. There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be convenience of the family. Hull Funeral Service, 60 Division Street, Danbury, is handling arrangements.

SCHULZE
Wilton, Ct. Mrs. Augusta Grosse Schulze, 90, formerly of Bethel, widow of William F. Schulze, formerly of Bethel, died at the Green Meadows Convalescent Home, Sunday morning, following a long illness. Born in Germany, July 25, 1874, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William C. Grosse. She came to this country 75 years ago, and was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. She leaves three step-sons, Albert H. Schulze of Bethel, Arnold H. Schulze of Danbury and Conrad O. Schulze, also of Bethel; four step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held from the Albert W. Schmidt Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Tuesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Hans A. Voss, pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot in the Center Cemetery, Bethel. Calling hours at the funeral home will be this evening from 7 to 9.

[handwritten: Aug. 30, 1964]. Funeral of Mrs. William F. Schulze. Services for Mrs. Augusta Schulze, widow of William F. Schulze, formerly of Bethel, were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Albert W. Schmidt Funeral Home. The Rev. Hans A. Voss, pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, officiated. Burial was in the family plot in the Center Cemetery, Bethel, with committal services conducted by the Rev. Mr. Voss and the Rev. Ernest Kunsch.

In Newtown, July 29, 1971. Conrad Otto Schulze, 69, of 7 Balforth Ave., Danbury, died yesterday morning in Fairfield Hills Hospital, Newtown, after a long illness. He was born in Bethel Oct. 11, 1901, son of the late William F. and Carrie (Steck) Schulze. Mr. Schulze was a resident of Bethel all his life before moving to Danbury in 1967. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danbury. Besides his wife, the former Caroline Morrison, he leaves two brothers, Alfred H. of Bethel and Arnold of Danbury, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., tomorrow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gregory J. Wismar of Immanuel lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

[handwritten: Feb. 19, 1959] Boston - Edward E. Schulze, of Tice, Fla., and Bethel, who operated the former Ed's Fireplace Grill on the Danbury-Brookfield highway (Huckleberry Hill), died unexpectedly yesterday at Deaconess hospital, Boston. He had come north by plane last week and entered the hospital last Friday. He had moved to Florida with his wife about six years ago, after selling the grill. The couple had since spent summers at their home on Reservoir street, Bethel. He was born Aug. 12, 1896 in Bethel, a son of the late William and Carolyn (Steck) Schulze. He worked for a building and painting contractor in Florida. Surviving are his wife, the former Pauline Deubel; a daughter, Mrs. Walter Repp, and a granddaughter, Sandra, all of Tice; his step-mother, Mrs. Augusta Schulze, and three brothers, Albert, Conrad and Arnold Schulze, all of Bethel. Cremation will take place in Boston and the remains will be taken to Florida for burial. Masonic services will be conducted in Florida.

[handwritten: Sunday, May 31, 1970] Mrs. Pauline Deubel Schulze, 73, widow of Edward Schulze of 36 Reservoir St., Bethel, died Sunday in Fort Myers, Fla., after a short illness. Born June 9, 1896, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Deubel of Danbury. She was a graduate of Danbury High School, class of 1914 (photo), and past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star of Bethel. Mrs. Schulze had been living in Fort Myers with her daughter, Mrs. Walter Repp and her granddaughter, Sandra. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. D.J. Shaw of Carmel, N.Y., Mrs. Ernest P. Gustafson Sr. of Danbury and Mrs. George Seaberg of Bethel. Services will take place Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Episcopal Church in Fort Myers. Cremation will follow.

SCHWAK
[handwritten: June 6, 1951] Samuel H. Schwak died at his home 39 North street last evening after a short illness. He was in his 68th year. Born in Tunis, North Africa, August 24, 1883, he had been on this country about 50 years and during all of that time, until his death, conducted a fruit and grocery store in the North street neighborhood. He had no relatives in this country and is survived only by nieces and nephews in Tunis. The funeral will be held at the Tomlinson Homestead Saturday at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Albert Larcombe, pastor of the Advent Christian church, officiating. Burial will be in Wooster cemetery. The Homestead will be open Friday afternoon and evening for friends. (Photo & Text)

Funeral of Samuel H. Schwak. The funeral of Samuel H. Schwak was held at the Tomlinson Homestead, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Albert Larcombe, pastor of the Advent Christian church, officiating. The bearers were: Alfred C. Tyrell, Robert J. Tyrell, John G. Tyrell, Joseph Deep, John N. Deep, of this city, and Edward J. Deep, of West Orange, N.J. Burial was in the family plot in Wooster cemetery.

SCOTT
Undated clipping, about 1966, Danbury. Mrs. Nellie G. Scott, 70, wife of Herbert F. Scott of 29 Maple Ave., died at Danbury Hospital Wednesday. She had been in ill health for several weeks. Mrs. Scott was born in England Dec. 1, 1896, and had made her home in Danbury for about 30 years. She was for 25 years a waitress at the former Hotel Green. She was a member of St. James' Episcopal Church. Her only survivor is her husband. The funeral service will be held at the Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main St., on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. John Spear of St. James' Episcopal church will officiate. Burial will be in Ridgefield Cemetery, ridgefield. The Homestead will be open this evening from 7 to 9.

SEABERG
Anna H. Seaberg, age 99, of Bethel passed peacefully on Monday, July 10th [2000], at the Pope John Paul II Center for Healthcare, Danbury, where she had resided since February 1999. She was the wife of the late George Robert Seaberg. Born Anna Hofmann Deubel, in Danbury on September 5, 1900, she was the daughter of the late William and Anna Veronica (Hofmann) Deubel. Mrs. Seaberg attended Danbury schools, and was employed by the Clark Box Company from the 1920's until her retirement as the supervisor of it's printing department. Mrs. Seaberg was a parishoner of St. Mary, Bethel, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Seaberg was also predeceased by her brother Frank Deubel, and her sisters: Dora Shaw, Miriam Deubel, Susanna Gustafson and Pauline Schulze. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 18th at the Church of St. Mary, Bethel, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Wooster Cemetery, Danbury. In Bethel, December 18, 1943. The death of Mrs. Charlotte Stark Seaberg, widow of Gustav Seaberg, a well known and highly respected resident of Bethel occurred at her home 34 Hickok avenue, Saturday afternoon about 12:30 o'clock following an illness of only a few weeks. Mrs. Seaberg was born in Gothenberg, Sweden, and came to America in 1888. She resided in Bethel ever since. Her home was her main interest in life and she was greatly devoted to it. Mrs. Seaberg is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Warren Reynolds and Mrs. John Nichols of Stratford; Mrs. Henry Staib, Mrs. Wilbur Stryker, Mrs. Thomas Feeley and Mrs. Charles I. Clapp of Bethel. Another daughter, Mrs. Herbert Wanderer, also of Bethel, died last February. Two sons, George Seaberg of Bethel and Edward Seaberg of Whitehorse, Canada, and a sister, Mrs. Sophie Levine of Bethel, and twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, together with several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held a the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles I. Clapp, 30 Hickok avenue Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the Rev. Frank Tishkins, minister of the Congregational church officiating. Interment will be in the family plot in Bethel.

Funeral of Mrs. Charlotte Seaberg. The funeral of Mrs. Charlotte Stark Seaberg, widow of Gustav Seaberg, whose death occurred Saturday afternoon was held a the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles I. Clapp, 30 Hickok avenue, yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with the Rev. Frank Tishkins, minister of the Congregational church, officiating. There was a large number of relatives, friends and neighbors at the service. Among the numerous floral offerings were pieces from the Saturday night club, neighbors, department A.E.T. of the Remington Arms Company and from employees of the N. & B. Company and the firm. The bearers were Warren Reynolds, Thomas C. Feeley, Henry Staib, Herbert Wanderer, Wilbur Stryker and Charles Clapp, sons-in-law of Mrs. Seaberg. Interment was in the family plot in Elmwood ceremony where committal services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Tishkins.

July 27, 1945. Dies in Wyoming. Frank E. Seaberg Was Former Resident of Bethel. Word has been received of the death Tuesday in Cody, Wyoming, of Frank Edward Seaberg, formerly of Bethel. Mr. Seaberg died following an operation. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Seaberg. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lewis Barling of Cody; a step-son, Angus Seaberg, of Cody; three grandchildren; six sisters, Mrs. John B. Nichols and Mrs. Warren Reynolds, of Stratford, and Mrs. Henry Staib, Mrs. Wilbur Stryker, Mrs. Thomas Feeley and Mrs. Charles Clapp, of Bethel, and a brother, George Seaberg of Bethel. Funeral services were held this afternoon at the home of his daughter. Burial was in Cody cemetery.

In Danbury, June 2, 1979. George R. Seaberg, 82, of 78 Hoyt's Hill, Bethel, husband of Anna H. Deubel Seaberg, died yesterday at Danbury Hospital. Born in Bethel Nov. 20, 1896, he was the son of the late Gustav and Charlotte Stark Seaberg. He lived most of his life in Bethel, and worked as a toolmaker, first at Doran Brothers in Danbury, and then in the research and development department at Remington Arms Co., Bridgeport. He retired in 1961. He served with an artillery unit during World War I. A drummer since the age of 14, Mr. Seaberg performed with the drum corps of Bethel, Danbury (Photo), and the American Legion, and was the last leader of the Old Bethel Drum Corps. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Old 8th Company. On June 19, Mr. and Mrs. Seaberg would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. In addition to his wife, he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Thomas C. Feeley of Danbury, and Mrs. John B. Nichols of Stratford, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Tuesday morning at 11:30. Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury. [handwritten: June 15, 1940] Funeral of Gustav Seaberg. Private funeral services for the late Gustav Seaberg, whose death occurred at his home, 34 Hickok avenue, early Saturday afternoon were held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles I. Clapp, 30 Hickok avenue, this afternoon at 2:30. The Rev. Frank Tishkins, pastor of the First Congregational church, officiated. Mr. Seaberg was born in Skara, Sweden, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Seaberg. He came to this country 52 years ago and settled in Bethel, where he resided until his death. He was a hatter by trade, but was last employed at the Ball & Roller Bearing Co. in Danbury. He was well known and respected in this vicinity. Besides his wife, Charlotte Stark Seaberg, he is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. Warren Reynolds of Stratford; Mrs. Henry Staib, of Danbury; Mrs. Wilbur Stryker, Mrs. Thomas C. Feeley, Mrs. Charles I. Clapp, Mrs. Herbert B. Wanderer and Mrs. John B. Nichols, all of Bethel; two sons, George R. Seaberg of Danbury, and Edward Seaberg, of Denver, Col., as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bearers were Herbert B. Wanderer, John B. Nichols, Wilbur G. Stryker, Thomas C. Feeley, Warren S. Reynolds and Charles I. Clapp, all sons-in-law of the deceased. Among many floral tributes were pieces from past noble grands of Echo Rebekah lodge and the trimming department of John W. Green & Sons, Inc. Interment was in the family plot in Elmwood cemetery.

SHAIL
In Danbury, Nov. 3, 1963. Mrs. Clara May Shail, 81, wife of Howard Shail of 1 Elizabeth Rd., died at her home Sunday morning after an illness of many years. Born April 25, 1882, in Tarrytown, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John and Sara (Hoff) McPernan. She had been a Danbury resident most of her life. On Nov. 19 she would have been married 62 years. She was a member of the Central Christian Church and the Kings Daughters of the Church. Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, John H. Shail of Haddam; Clarence Shail of Danbury; a daughter, Mrs. Bernard Lapan; and a sister, Mrs. Arthur Morris, both of Danbury; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Hull Home, 60 Division St., with the Rev George W. Morris, minister of the Central Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday evening from 7 to 9.

SHAW
[handwritten: June 15th, 1928] David John Shaw died at his home, 14 Lowe Street, South Norwalk, last evening. Mr. Shaw was head of the printing department of the John Wanamaker store in New York City several years. His wife was, before her marriage, Miss Dora Deubel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Deubel, of Danbury. Mr. Shaw is survived by his wife and two sons, David and William. He also leaves one brother, John B. Shaw of Cherrydale, Va., and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Van Kirk, of Norwalk; Mrs. Frank Hoffman, of Danbury, and Mrs. Richard Finetty of Mexico. The funeral services will be held on Monday, from the late home at 10 a.m.; and at St. Joseph's church, South Norwalk, at 10:30. Interment will be in St. Peter's Catholic cemetery, Danbury.

SHUSTER
On 23 October, 1951. Dr. and Mrs. Shuster Mass Set Saturday. Couple Died 2 Hours Apart After Rescue From Fire. A mass for Dr. and Mrs. Mitchell N. Shuster [note: Maria Nichols Shuster], who died within two hours of each other Tuesday following a fire last Saturday in their apartment at the Warwick Hotel, 64 W. 54th St., will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Patrick's Cathedral. Dr. Shuster, a specialist in arthritis, was stricken with the disease about a year ago. He was forced to give up his clinical work, but remained in private practice. He was a graduate of the Bellevue Hospital Medical School and became interested in the study of arthritis. Fifteen years ago he established an arthritis clinic at St. Vincent's Hospital. The couple, who were taken to Roosevelt Hospital after suffering severe burns in the fire, died there Tuesday. The will be buried in Calvary Cemetery, Long Island City, Queens. Surviving are a daughter, Antonia, a student at Trinity College and Dr. Shuster's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Shuster.

STAIB
[handwritten: Nov. 14, 1970]. In Townsend, Vt. (AP). Two children of a former Bethel, Conn. resident died in a house fire here early Saturday. The victims were identified as Donald A. Staib, 7, and his sister, Laurie M., 6. A third child, Lonnie Staib, 2, was rescued from the flaming two-story wooden building by a neighbor. Donald Staib, father of the children, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Staib, of Old Hawleyville Road, Bethel. He was away on a hunting trip in Dorset, Vt., at the time of the fire. The mother, Mrs. Joan Staib, 26, received first and second-degree burns and face lacerations. She was listed in fair condition at the Grace Cottage Hospital here. Fire Chief Ronald Greenwood said the fire probably started in a flooded pot stove in the living room of the house in the Harmoneyville Village Section.

[handwritten: Mar. 3, 1947]. Mrs. Elvira D. Staib, wife of Henry Charles Staib of 11 Elgin avenue, Bethel, died at her home early this morning following a period of about two years during which she had been in failing health. Born in Sweden, Mrs. Staib came to this country in 1888 since which time she had been a resident of Bethel. She was a member of the Bethel Congregational church. Surviving are her husband: a daughter, Mrs. Royal Schlitter, of this city; two sons, Kenneth Henry Staib of Watertown and Harold G. Staib of Bethel, and nine grandchildren. She also leaves five sisters, Mrs. Warren Reynolds of Bridgeport; Mrs. Wilbur Stryker, Mrs. Thomas Feeley and Mrs. Charles Clapp of Bethel and Mrs. John Nichols of Stratford, and a brother George Seaberg of Bethel. There are also several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at the Cornell Memorial Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, the Rev. Robert P. Bell, minister of the Bethel Congregational church, officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in Elmwood cemetery, Bethel. Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Tuesday evening.

Funeral of Mrs. Henry C. Staib. The funeral of Mrs. Elvira D. Staib, wife of Henry Charles Staib, of 11 Elgin avenue, Bethel, was held a the Cornell Memorial, Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, with the Rev. Robert P. Bell, pastor of the Bethel Congregational church, officiating. The service was largely attended and numerous floral offerings were received. Mrs. Anna Van Horne sang "The Old Rugged Cross," accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Sadie Purdy. Tuesday evening members of the American Legion auxiliary conducted a ritual with Miss Ruby Karpich, president, in charge. Mrs. Helene Ashley was chaplain. The pallbearers were Wilbur G. Stryker, Thomas C. Feeley, Charles I. Clapp and Herbert B. Wanderer of Bethel, and John Nichols and Warren Reynolds of Bridgeport. Committal services were conducted at the Wooster cemetery chapel by Rev. Mr. Bell. Interment will take place at a later date in Elmwood cemetery, Bethel.

In Bethel, September 22, 1976. Mrs. Evelyn E. Staib, 74, of Old Hawleyville Road, Bethel, widow of Harold G. Staib, died at her home yesterday. Born in Bethel, March 9, 1902, daughter of the late Louis and Edith Ferry Frede, she was a lifelong Bethel resident where she was a member of the Congregational Church. She leaves three sons, Harold G. and Delwin E., both of Bethel, and Donald A. of Wardsboro, Vt., two daughters, Mrs. Carl F. Bailey and Mrs. Frederick Hallock both of Danbury; two brothers, Louis Frede of Tucson, Ariz., and Henry Frede of Danbury; one sister, Mrs. Herbert Clarkson of Bethel; 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael S. Strah of the congregational Church in Bethel officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel. Friends may call at the Bethel Funeral Home tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m.

In Danbury, March 1, 1971. Harold Garfield Staib, 68, of Old Hawleyville Road, Bethel, died early this morning at the Glen Hill Convalescent Center after a long illness. Born in Bethel Jan. 17, 1903, he was a son of the late Henry and Elvira (Seaberg) Staib. Mr. Staib, a livelong resident of Bethel, owned and operated a refuse removal business for 35 years before retiring in 1968, due to illness. He was a member of the Bethel Congregational Church and prior to his illness was an active member of the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department for 11 years. Besides his wife, the former Evelyn E. Frede, he leaves three sons, Harold G. Jr., and Delwin E., both of Bethel; and Donald A. of Wardsboro, Vt.; two daughters, Mrs. Carl F. Bailey and Mrs. Frederick Hallock, both of Danbury; a brother, Kenneth C. of Westport; a sister, Mrs. Royal M. Schlitter of Brookfield; 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In Bridgeport, Nov. 3, 1955. Henry C[harles] Staib of 259 White street, died Thursday afternoon in Bridgeport hospital after a short illness. He was 74 years of age. A native of Bethel, Mr. Staib was born July 14, 1881 and was a son of the late John Christopher and Katherine (Staib) Staib. He worked as a hatter throughout his life until about ten years ago when he retired and came to Danbury to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Royal Schlitter. He was a member of the Bethel Congregational Church. Besides his daughter, Mr. Staib leaves two sons, Kenneth of Watertown and Harold G. of Bethel; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Surviving also are two [three] brothers, William G. Staib of Danbury and Frederick C. and Harry R. Staib of Bethel. The funeral will be held at the Kyle-Hull home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Russell H. Milnes, pastor of the Bethel Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in Elmwood cemetery, Bethel. The funeral home will be open to visitors this afternoon to 5 o'clock and this evening from 7 to 9.

STEC
In Danbury, June 23, 1984. Mary Kowalski Stec, 83, of 27 High St., Danbury, died at her home Saturday evening following a long illness. Mrs. Stec was born in Rzeszow, Poland, Aug. 15, 1900, daughter of the late Casmier and Zofia Bszybusc Kowalski. She moved to this country in 1927 and had been in Danbury resident since then. She worked as a hat bander at the former Frank H. Lee Hat Co. in Danbury for 35 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Danbury and its altar society. She was a Gold Star Mother, signifying that she lost a son in World War II. She is survived by a daughter, Evelyn Gustafson of Danbury; a brother, Antosc Kowalski of Poland; a sister, Zofia Kakol of Poland; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Wednesday morning at 10. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. STEVENS
In Danbury, May 19, 1964. Albert A. Stevens, 66, of 12 Concord Rd., a former insurance agent for the Prudential Insurance Co., died Sunday in the Danbury Hospital. He had been a patient for two days. A native of Danbury, he was born June 7, 1897, son of the late James and Emma (Woutisseth) Stevens. A veteran of World War I, he served in the Navy. He was past president of the Veterans Council of Danbury. He was also a member of Joseph A. Treadwell post, American Legion, and of Hat City Barracks, World War I Veterans. He was a member of St. Peter's Church. He leaves two brothers, Irving D. Stevens of Brooklyn, N.Y., and James A. Stevens of Elmhurst, N.Y.; two sisters, Miss Isabel Stevens and Miss Viola Stevens, both also of Elmhurst, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held form the Cornelius Delury Memorial, 111 Main St., Thursday at 9:30 a.m. and in St. Peter's Church at 10 with a requiem high mass. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Calling hours at the memorial will be observed Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

STILLSON
In Danbury, on Jan. 14, 1960. Mrs. Viola M. Stillson, 71, of 51 Lincoln avenue, a lifetime resident here, died in Danbury hospital this morning after an illness of several months. She was admitted yesterday. She retired in January, 1958, after 15 years of employment in the hospital laundry. She was born July 22, 1888, a daughter of the late Frederick C. and Cora (Wildman) Woodruff of Danbury and was a member of the Methodist church. Surviving are four sons, William H. and Linford E. Stillson, both of Danbury; Albert R. Stillson of Carmel, N.Y.; and Kenneth Foshay of New Fairfield; one daughter, Mrs. James E. Bassett of Danbury; 11 grandchildren; one brother, Clarence W. Woodruff, of Trumbull; one nephew and one niece. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Tomlinson Homestead, 33 Main street. The Rev. Harold M. Jenkins, pastor of the First Methodist church, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery, Bethel. Friends may call at the Homestead Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

STONE
In Danbury, August 4, 1984, Frank M. Stone Sr., age 92, former president of Stone's Color Center and past president of the Scott-Fanton Museum and Historical Society, died at Danbury Hospital after apparently having a heart attack at his home on 16 Abbott Ave. Mr. Stone was the husband of Jennie Warner Stone. He was born in Danbury, July 7, 1892, son of the late Charles J. and Harriet Rushton Stone. During World War I, he enlisted in the Army and was a member of Hat City Barracks, Old Eighth Company. Mr. Stone had also been a life member and honorary commander of the American Legion and treasurer of the Veterans Advisory Center. After his retirement in 1960 from the Stone Company, he continued to be active in company affairs as a member and vice-president of the board of directors and consultant. He had been honored as a 20-plus year member of Union Lodge No. 40, A.F. & A.M. Mr. Stone had also been a member and past director of the Chamber of Commerce. An active member of the Fairfield County Council of the Boy Scouts of America, he had been recognized as Connecticut's oldest living Eagle Scout. At his death, Mr. Stone had been writing his autobiography. He also received the Book of Golden Deeds Award from the Exchange Club, of which he had been a charter member. Mr. Stone established the Freedom Shrine, a program offering replicas of historical documents for display in Danbury area schools. He had also been a past vice-president of the board fo directors of the Cemetery Association and a member of the United Methodist Church, where he had served on the official board. He is survived by five daughters, Louise F. Schueler of Syracuse, N.Y, Jeanette Mayer of Brookfield, Dorothy E. Headley of Northfield, Minn., Shirley A. Crowe of Worcester, Mass, and Nancy T. Wehr of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Candace Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery. Friends may call tonight from 7 to 9 at the Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main St. Officers and brothers of Union Lodge will meet tonight at 7:50 at the Masonic Temple, 337 Main St., and proceed to the Tomlinson Homestead for a memorial service at 8. STRYKER
In Bethel, Feb. 23, 1963. Davida May Seaberg Stryker, 73, wife of Wilbur G. Stryker of 87 Nashville Rod., died at her home Saturday evening. She was born May 13, 1889 in Bethel, daughter of the late Gustav and Charlotte (Stark) Seaberg. She was a member of the Bethel Congregational Church. Mrs. Stryker is survived by her husband; a brother, George Seaberg of Bethel; three sisters, Mrs. Thomas Feeley of Danbury, Mrs. Charles Clapp of Bethel, and Mrs. John Nichols of Stratford; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave. with the Rev. Russell H. Milnes of the Bethel Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

In Wallingford, June 27, 1973. Wilbur G. Stryker, 83, formerly of 87 Nashville Road, Bethel died yesterday at the Masonic Home, Wallingford. He was born in Newark, N.J. March 19, 1890, son of the late William H. and Anna Ellerman Stryker. He was a resident of Bethel most of his life and a resident in the Masonic Home for nine years. Formerly employed at the John W. Green Hat Company, he retired in 1955. He was a 50 year member of the Eureka Lodge 83 of Masons. He leaves one brother, Howard E. Stryker of Bethel, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave. tomorrow at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Russell H. Milnes officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Bethel. Friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9. Officers and members of Eureka Lodge of Masons will conduct the Masonic service at 8 p.m.
