This is a from a family history created by the Todd family (Emla L. Todd Rogers) in Cambridge. This is the family legend on how this family came to the United States.

John Todd with his son Henry left England about 1854 for the United States. John left behind his wife and children.  Jonathan was already married and his family remained in England. It took 3 weeks to cross  the Atlantic Ocean.  He was mine inspector at Massilon,Ohio.  In two years he send for his family around 1856. They lived in Massilon awhile and John Holliday Todd was born there. Then they moved in a short while to Cambridge. Sarah Jane their last daugther was born near  Cambridge on November 2, 1859 close to the old Toll Gate.  They lived there until Sarah Jane was 4 years old.  The Old Toll Gate had a long pole reached across the road. The fee to open the gate was five cents.

John Todd Sr. was a mine Inspector for Massilow,Stark and Guernsey County

Around1863or 1864 John Todd of England left Guernsey County, Ohio for Kansas. He didn't have a team of oxen.   So he hired a stagecoach with a driver to take him and his family from Cambridge, Ohio to Cincinnati, Ohio. (In the written family history it only talks about  how they arrived in Cincinnati, the rest is from history book on traveling in the West) From there they travel on a Steamboat down the Ohio River to where it join the Mississippi River, then up the Mississippi River to St. Louis.  From St. Louis they traveled up the Missouri River to Leavenworth, Missouri.  From there by Stage Coach to Kansas City, Missouri Then on to the new homestead near Shiloh, Kansas.  John Todd took up Homestead 160 acres near Shiloh Kansas, he let his son Robert have 80 acres.  Robert wasn't legally old enough to the homestead land so his father shared half of his homestead with him.

It is said that  Dan, Joseph and Tom went to fight in the Civil War (1861-1865).
