Barton Definition(s):
The name Barton is thought to be derived from the Old English bar (defense) and ton (town) to signify the "defense" or "defender of the tow". Some think that it was derived from bere (barley) and tun (enclosure) meaning "the barley enclosure", but this latter derivation seems to have little support. Another definition found is that Barton is a Czech cognate of Bartlam which is an English variation of Bartholomew. Bartholomew is from the medieval given name from Aramaic bar-Talmay (son of Talmay) whose name meant 'having many furrows' in the sense of having much land. Patronymic forms also exist in several languages.
