Deed of Emancipation - Barnaby Nixon's Slaves 1787

I Barnaby Nixon of Prince George County Virginia Being fully persuaded that Freedom is the natural Right of all mankind and that it is my Duty to do unto others as I would desire to be done by in the like situation, and having under my care Negroes of the following names and ages vizt: Jimmie aged about twenty three years, Jacob aged about twenty six years, I do therefore Emancipate and set free the said Negroes, and I do for myself, my Heirs, Executors and Administrators Relinquist all my right, Title, Interest & Claim or pretensions of claim whatsoever, either to their persons or to any Estate they may hereafter acquire, and having also under my care Negroes now in their minority of the following names and ages, Vizt: Moses aged about sixteen years, Mille about Eight years, Polly aged about three years. Whom I also hereby Emancipate & set free, yet I believe it right for me to act as a Guardian over them until the males arive to the age of twenty one years and the females to the age of Eighteen years. And I do for myself, my Heirs, Executors and Administrators relinquish all my Right, Title, Interest and Claim or pretensions of claim whatsoever either to their persons or to any estate they may acquire after they shall attain to the ages aforesaid. Which will be as followeth (to wit) Moses the 15th day of the 8 month 1792, Mille the 5th day of the 5th month 1797, Polly the 25th of the 5th month 1805. Without any Interruption from me, or any person claiming for, by, from or under me. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this sixth day of the 12 month in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred & Eighty Seven.

At a Court held for Prince George County in the Court house on Tuesday the XIIth day of February 1788.This foregoing Deed for the Emancipation of Barnaby Nixon's slaves therein named, was acknowledged by said Nixon to be his act and Deed & is by order of Court truly recorded.
