John Robert Deese Obituary

Mr J. R. Deese of Sandy Ridge township was born in 1852, and married 
Miss Martha C Secrest in 1874. To this union was born 12 children 
3 girls and 9 sons. Two of his children passed over the river before 
their father. 
He died July 16th 1914, in the Christian faith, leaving his beloved 
wife  and his affectionate children, 8 sons and 2 daughters to mourn
their loss.  But we feel sure their loss is his eternal gain.
His body was buried at the cemetery at Weddington the 17th inst.
The service was conducted by Revs. Taylor and Bradley in a large 
concourse of relatives, friends and neighbors who had met to show
their high esteem in which they held the deceased.
He and his wife were poor when married, but by industry and economy 
they had accumulated about 700 acres of land, money and other property.
His will gave each child a tract of land and to his bereaved widow 
he willed his homeplace. 
May God protect the widow and fatherless children and help them to
meet the father in heaven, is the prayer of a friend.
