   General Notes:

From records of Kathy Glendenning of Richmond, California:

John Jacob and Walter were both baptized on 18 October 1761.

On the second day of December 1797, Walter Newman purchased a one acre lot in the town of Point Pleasant, Virginia (now West Virginia). This is the lot that the Mansion Inn is located on. If the Inn was built in 1796, Walter Newman did not build it. The dishes that are still in the Inn were supplied by Walter's son, Jonas Newman, not by Walter Newman as is advertised. The Inn was the property of Walter Newman in the late 1700's.

Walter Newman enlisted as a private in the Pennsylvania Troops in 1777. He was a resident of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He served several periods of two months under Captains Phillip Weiser, Audenbrook, Casper Stover,Joseph Gehr, Leonard Ismell, James Hays, David Krause, George Feather, Baltser Orth, Valentine Shonfler, Abraham Smith, John Kinsog, and Colonel Grub, amounting in all about two years. In 1780, he served five months as Teamster, under Jacob Shaffner, Wagon Master. He was allowed a pension 3 November 1832, while a resident of Walnut Township, Fairfield County, Ohio. He died at Newark, Licking County, Ohio. His third wife, Elizabeth Wheeler, was allowed a widow's Pension which was executed 23 April 1853. She was fifty-eight years of age and a resident of Newark, Ohio.
