Anthony & Marianna Amanzia Bizzarro
were
born , lived & married in Italy.
Born to them in Italy were: Benjamin, Patrick, Michael &
Marion.
The
family immigrated to the United States after 1914 -
born to Anthony & Marianna in the U. S. were : 4 more of
their children , Mary Josephine ( who is Mom to me and my
siblings ), Ralph , Francis and Anthony JR.
The family
lived in Smethport ,PA before moving to Bradford. In Bradford,
they first lived at 31 North Street then they moved to 3 Brennan
which is kitty corner to where the first home was. The home on
Brennan still remains in the family. It is said to be over 100
yrs. old or very close to it. We are positive that it at least 85
yrs. old. Josephine & Tony have spoken recently , to the fact
that this home used to be a schoolhouse. I will try to find the
records on both the age of the home and it's previous
ownership.
Later in years , son Patrick and his first wife Angeline(a) ,
lived at 25 North Street - which is still a home , and the oldest
son, Benjamin and his wife Cecilia - lived at 39 North Street. It does
not belong to the family of Bizzarro now.
Daughter Josephine recalls visiting with sister-in-law Angelina,
one evening, while brother Pat was working. "War Of The
Worlds" , Orson Wells tale of horror, was playing on the
radio -she says she was so frightened by the radio broadcast ,
that she ran all the way home. ( If you recall the placement of
homes - this means the run must have been about a 2 minute
experience - but with the fear she must of had - the run must
have seemed an hour long to her.
Grandpa Bizzarro was a Track man for the Baltimore and Ohio
Railroad ,which he retired from in 1936. Grandma Bizzarro was a
full time Mom and housekeeper.
In 1920 , Ben (18) and Patrick (16), worked at the Silk Mill
in Bradford, and Josephine worked there in her teenage years
also. Pat , Josephine and brother Tony, worked at the "Box
Shop & Owen/Illinois Box Factory , which is located on what
is named "Owen's Way. Josephine also worked at
Woolworth's as a floor walker & change clerk ,she worked
at Dresser#39;s , as a welder,Rosy's Riveters.
and at the Roman Villa Restaurant when they needed extra help.
Marion worked at the Roman Villa for 20 some years. Brother Mike
and Mike Ross, co-owned a barber shop on Main St. Brother Frank
& his wife Clara (Piazza) - worked at Corning Glass.
"NOTE" The family name, as Grandpa Anthony wrote it, contained 2
z s & 2 r s. I am not certain as to why or when an r had been
dropped but most now use one.
