     Clarence was born at Hepburn, Page County, Iowa, on 28 March 1874.² He was the son of Joseph Leander Loghry and Isabell Melinda Ferrell. He married Ina Rhamy on 13 September 1896. Clarence died on 6 March 1958 at Stevenson, Skamania County, Washington, at age 83.²

     Jessie was born at Clarinda, Page County, Iowa, on 16 January 1881.¹ She was the daughter of Joseph Leander Loghry and Isabell Melinda Ferrell. Jessie died at or before January 26, 1881. Conflicting evidence states that Jessie was born circa 1899.²

     According to information obtained from microfiche at the FHS, Daniel was born in Mahaska County in 1858. Daniel was born at Mahaska County, Iowa, in January 1858.¹ He was the son of George William Loghry and Esther Shock Peterson. He married Leah Rose Farrell at Clarinda, Page County, Iowa, on 26 March 1876.² Daniel died July 19,1885 at Nowata Indian Territory.

     Charles was born at Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa, on 5 July 1865.¹ He was the son of George William Loghry and Esther Shock Peterson. He married Florence E. Mayall at Villisca, Montgomery County, Iowa, on 2 July 1883. He married Wilma Lyman Myers at Clarinda, Page County, Iowa, in 1905.

     Arthur was born at Rose Hill, Mahaska County, Iowa, in 1867.¹ He was the son of George William Loghry and Esther Shock Peterson. Conflicting evidence states that Arthur was born at Hepburn, Page County, Iowa, in 1869. Arthur died in 1886.

     Her body was interred at Browns Crossing, Steuben County, New York, at Browns Crossing Burying Grounds. Mary was born at Pennsylvania circa 1773. She was the daughter of William Loughry and Nancy Purdy. She married John Moore circa 1793. Mary died circa 1840 at Canisteo, Steuben County, New York. Conflicting evidence states that she died at Browns Crossing, Steuben County, New York, circa 1846.¹

     John was born in 1762.¹ He married Mary Loghry circa 1793. John died on 28 February 1836 at Browns Crossing, Steuben County, New York.²

     His body was interred at Canisteo, Steuben County, New York, at Browns Crossing Cemetery.¹ He was christened at Wilkes Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.¹ Early settler of Brown's Crossing, Canisteo Township, where he bought, probably of Elisha Brown, the original proprietor, 400 acres of land for six shillings per acre. This land lay upon both sides of the river and is now included in the farms of George Dawson, Isaac Roosa, Jefferson Hadley, and Ira Lane. At this point he built and operated a saw mill which probably stood on the south bank of the river about 50 rods above the river bridge, where there appears to be the outlines of a race. History says in reference to this family: "Among the early settlers west of Cameron were Andrew and Joseph Loghry, who ran a saw mill on the river." Joseph, in his youth, was an athlete as the records of his native village near Wilkes Barre report. Joseph was born at Wilkes Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, circa 1777.^2,3,4 He was the son of William Loughry and Nancy Purdy. He married Mary Santee at Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, in 1800.⁵ Joseph died on 8 February 1831 at Canisteo, Steuben County, New York.^4,5

Mary was born at Mount Bethel, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, in 1785.^1,2,3 She was the daughter of Valentine Santee and Margaret Funston. She married Joseph Leander Loghry at Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, in 1800.⁴ Mary died on 15 March 1828 at Canestio, Steuben County, New York.      Mary died at Steuben County, New York. She was christened at Browns Crossing, Steuben County, New York.¹ Her body was interred at located in Browns Crossing, Steuben County, New York, at Browns Crossing Burying Grounds.² Mary Loghry was also known as Mollie Loghry. Mary was born at Steuben County, New York, in 1806. Birth dates also provided: 1807 (Jacob Loghry, Information sheets) and 1815 (Davis to Jorgenson, Letter 09/19/98)..³ She was the daughter of Joseph Leander Loghry and Mary Santee. She married Robert E. Brown at Canisteo, Steuben County, New York, in 1831.⁴

     Lettie was born at Steuben County, New York, in 1808.^1,2 She was the daughter of Joseph Leander Loghry and Mary Santee. Lettie died on 31 December 1893 at St. Anne, Kankakee County, Illinois.^3,1,4

     His body was interred at Steuben County, New York, at Swale Cemetery.¹ William was born at Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, on 20 September 1801.^2,3 He was the son of Joseph Leander Loghry and Mary Santee. He married (?) Tuttle before 1829. He married Lydia Miller at Pennsylvania? circa 1839. William died on 6 March 1873 at Steuben County, New York, at age 71.^1,2

     He resided at Ohio. John was born at Steuben County, New York, on 20 March 1803.^1,2,3 He was the son of Joseph Leander Loghry and Mary Santee. He married Electa Foster at New York in 1825.⁴ John was listed as the head of a family on the 1830 Census at Canisteo Township, Steuben County, New York. Household consisted of two boys under 5; one boy 5-10 years old; and one girl 5-10 years old..⁵

John Joseph Loghry is head of household in the 1850 Census of Noble, Branch County, Michigan as John Loghry. Farmer, age 47, born in New York. Enumerated with John Joseph Loghry was Electa Foster, Adeline Loghry, Charles Loghry, Andrew Loghry, Alvin P. Loghry, Amos Loghry and Sarah Priscilla Loghry.³ John died in 1860 at Kankakee, Kankakee County, Illinois.⁴

     Nancy died UNKNOWN. She was born circa 1806.¹ As of circa 1823, her married name was Loghry.¹ She married James Loghry, son of Joseph Leander Loghry and Mary Santee, circa 1823.¹

     They settled near the Oregon schoolhouse on the road to Brown's Crossing where John Hedges had formerly resided. Had two sons. Charles was born at Cameron, Steuben County, New York, on 13 October 1811.¹ He was the son of Joseph Leander Loghry and Mary Santee. Conflicting evidence states that Charles was born at Steuben County, New York, on 30 October 1811.² Charles died on 13 August 1882 at Steuben County, New York, at age 70.^3,2 His body was interred at located in Coss Corners, Steuben County, New York, at Coss's Corners Burying Grounds.

     William was born at Chilicothe, Missouri, circa 1870. He was the son of Franklin Roush and Angeline Coons. He married Hattie Jane See on 14 June 1893.¹ He married Nellie Florence Wakefield in 1907.

William Adam Rouse is head of household in the 1920 Census of Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa as William Rouse. White male, age 48. Unable to read or write. Born in Missouri. Father and mother born in the U .S. Is able to speak English. Occupation Teamster/garbage. Enumerated with William Adam Rouse was Nellie Florence Wakefield, George Raymond Rouse, Arthur Rouse and Harold Rouse.² William Adam Rouse and Nellie Florence Wakefield were divorced before 1930.^3,4 The 1930 Census listed William Adam Rouse in addition to Anna Lee [--?--] in the household of David H. Rouse, in Lee Township, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.⁵ William Adam Rouse was enumerated as William A. Rouse. Divorced white male, age 58. Not able to read or write. Born in Missouri, father and mother born in Illinois. He works as a common laborer.⁵ William died circa 1952 at Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. His body was interred at Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

     Date of birth is probably between 6-15-1873 (19-years-old when she married) and 3-11-1874 (20-years-old when Anna Mae was born). Grave is unmarked. No information has been found regarding her death. Alta Thornton (granddaughter of Hattie) says she died of a botched abortion and may have died in Missouri. Her body was interred at Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, at Sims Cemetery. Her married name was Rouse. Hattie was born at Iowa circa 1873. She was the daughter of David See and Anna M. Lowell. She married William Adam Rouse on 14 June 1893.¹ Hattie died circa 1903.

     Myrtle was born at Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, circa 1898. She was the daughter of William Adam Rouse and Hattie Jane See.

     Nellie Florence Wakefield was born on 28 October 1889 at Plano, Iowa.¹ She married William Adam Rouse in 1907. As of 1907, her married name was Rouse. The 1920 Census listed Nellie Florence Wakefield in addition to George Raymond Rouse, Arthur Rouse and Harold Rouse in the household of William Adam Rouse, in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.² Nellie Florence Wakefield was enumerated as Nellie R ouse. White female, age 31. Able to read and write. Born in Iowa as were both parents.² She and William Adam Rouse were divorced before 1930.^3,4 Nellie Florence Wakefield was enumerated as Nellie Yages. Married white female, age 41. First married at age 16. She was born in Iowa, as were both parents. She was employed as a sorter of paper dishes.⁴

     The oldest known Iowan is Nellie Cross of Des Moines who is 112 years old. Mrs. Cross was born in Plano Iowa in 1889 and currently resides with a granddaughter in her own home in Des Moines. She lived on a farm near Centerville until she married and moved to Des Moines. She raised four boys. Nellie's granddaughter said it was eventful when Nellie turned 111 in October 2000. Her grandmother, Nellie, celebrated this special occasion at the Meskwaki Casino in Tama. Nellie credits her long life to not drinking or smoking. She always liked to be outdoors and loved to fish. Until a few years ago, Nellie routinely worked in her yard -- in fact her granddaughter remembered when she was 104 she raked 28 bags of leaves from her yard. More recently, Nellie's health has declined, but she still reminisces about much of her life when visiting with friends and family.¹ She died on 3 April 2002 at Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, at age 112.¹

     George was born on 3 July 1909.¹ He was the son of William Adam Rouse and Nellie Florence Wakefield. The 1920 Census listed George Raymond Rouse in addition to Nellie Florence Wakefield, Arthur Rouse and Harold Rouse in the household of William Adam Rouse, in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.² George Raymond Rouse was enumerated as Raymond Rouse. White male, age 10. Attending school. Born in Iowa. Father born in Missouri; mother born in Iowa.² George died in August 1985 at age 76.¹

     Arthur was born at Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, on 12 January 1912.¹ He was the son of William Adam Rouse and Nellie Florence Wakefield. The 1920 Census listed Arthur Rouse in addition to Nellie Florence Wakefield, George Raymond Rouse and Harold Rouse in the household of William Adam Rouse, in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.² Arthur Rouse was enumerated as Harold Rouse. White male, age 5. Born in Iowa. Father born in Missouri; mother in Iowa.² Arthur died on 23 April 1992 at age 80.¹

     Harold was born at Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, on 11 December 1914.¹ He was the son of William Adam Rouse and Nellie Florence Wakefield. The 1920 Census listed Harold Rouse in addition to Nellie Florence Wakefield, George Raymond Rouse and Arthur Rouse in the household of William Adam Rouse, in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.² Harold Rouse was enumerated as Arthur Rouse. White male, age 8. Attending school. Born in Iowa. Father born in Missouri; mother borni n Iowa.² Harold Rouse was enumerated as Harold Rouse. Single white male, age 16. Is able to read, write, and speak English. He was born in Iowa, father born in Missouri, and mother born in Iowa.³ Harold died on 12 March 1993 at age 78.¹

     Mary was born at Grant County, Indiana, on 13 January 1845.¹ She married Riley H Thornton at Story County, Iowa, on 3 May 1877.^2,3 As of 3 May 1877, her married name was Thornton.² The 1900 Census listed Mary Winslow in addition to Ruth Thornton, Agnes Thornton, Clayborn Thornton, Clarence Thornton, Cora B Thornton and Fred Hildebrand in the household of Riley H Thornton, in Green Bay, Clarke County, Iowa, U.S..⁴ Mary Winslow was enumerated as Mary Thornton. White female, age 55. Born Jan 1845 in Indiana. Father was born in North Carolina, mother in Indiana. She is the mother of 11 children, of whom all 11 were still living.⁴ She witnessed the probate of the estate of Riley H Thornton on 11 December 1900 at District Court of Iowa, Clarke County, Iowa.⁵ Mary Winslow died on 10 May 1913 at Clarke County at age 68.

Mrs. Mary Thornton

Mary Winslow was born in Grant county, Indiana January 13, 1845. At the age of ten years, with her parents, she moved to Dallas county, Iowa, near Redfield.

When seventeen years of age she was united in marriage to Jonathan Reynolds in the month of December 1861, and to this union were born six children, three sons and three daughters, namely, Milton, Mrs. Laura Vandeventer and Mrs. Rena Shawver, all of South Dakota, Mrs. Eliza Charman of Elizabeth, Colo., and Willie and Tillie, both of Des Moines, Iowa.

In January 1875, she was left a widow and struggled through the hardships of life with her six small children, until May 3, 1877, when she was again united in marriage to Riley Thornton of Polk county, Ia. This union was blessed with five children, two sons and three daughters, namely, Mrs. Ruth West, deceased, Mrs. Cora Swain, Agnes, Clayborn and Clarence, all of Osceola, Iowa.

In March 1890, they with their family moved to Clarke county, Iowa, and settled on a farm in Green Bay Township. July 31, 1900 she was again left a widow. She with her children remained on the farm until three years ago she moved to Osceola which has been her home ever since.

At an early age she united with the United Brethren church, having lived a true Christian life, always attended church services whenever health permitted, always ready to lend a helping hand to others, and always cheerful and kind hearted. About two years ago united with the Methodist church in Osceola and remained a member there until her death on Saturday, May 10, 1913. After feeding her chickens she came into the house where she had an attack of heart failure and quietly passed away. She was quiet and unassuming but lived the life of the Christian.

Mrs. Thornton leaves to mourn her death ten children, six sisters, three brothers, forty-one grandchildren and five great grandchildren, and friends. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church at one o'clock Wednesday afternoon, conducted by her pastor Rev. L. B. Carpenter.

White male, age 5, born in Illinois.² The 1860 Census listed Nathan Thornton in addition to Martin Luther Thornton, Rachel Hayworth, Charity Thornton, Susanna L Thornton, George H Thornton, Richard Golden Thornton, Clara Thornton and Daniel G Thornton in the household of Riley H Thornton, in Douglas Township, Polk County, Iowa.³ Nathan Thornton was enumerated as Nathan. Male, age 15, born in Illinois.³ Nathan died on 21 September 1862 at Sedalia, Missouri.⁴

     Charity died.¹ Charity was born at Iowa circa 1848. She was the daughter of Riley H Thornton and Rachel Hayworth. The 1850 Census listed Charity Thornton in addition to Rachel Hayworth, Nathan Thornton and Susanna L Thornton in the household of Riley H Thornton, in Fort Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.² Charity Thornton was enumerated as Charity Thornton. White female, age 2, born in Iowa.³ The 1860 Census listed Charity Thornton in addition to Martin Luther Thornton, Rachel Hayworth, Nathan Thornton, Susanna L Thornton, George H Thornton, Richard Golden Thornton, Clara Thornton and Daniel G Thornton in the household of Riley H Thornton, in Douglas Township, Polk County, Iowa.⁴ Charity Thornton was enumerated as C. Thornton. Female, age 12, born in Iowa.⁴

     Susanna was born at Iowa on 12 July 1849.¹ She was the daughter of Riley H Thornton and Rachel Hayworth. The 1850 Census listed Susanna L Thornton in addition to Rachel Hayworth, Nathan Thornton and Charity Thornton in the household of Riley H Thornton, in Fort Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.² Susanna L Thornton was enumerated as Susanna Thornton. White female, age 1, born in Iowa.² The 1860 Census listed Susanna L Thornton in addition to Martin Luther Thornton, Rachel Hayworth, Nathan Thornton, Charity Thornton, George H Thornton, Richard Golden Thornton, Clara Thornton and Daniel G Thornton in the household of Riley H Thornton, in Douglas Township, Polk County, Iowa.³ Susanna L Thornton was enumerated as S.
