The cemetery is on high ground overlooking the town of Geneseo to the northwest. His tombstone reads, "A. Jenkins, died Apr 21, 1874, age 59 Y's 4 M's 11 D's."      In 1928 Emma Sonner King, a grandaughter, wrote that there were 13 children born to this family, three boys and 10 girls. The family moved from Virginia when Susan was about 11 years old, coming to eastern Iowa where they remained only a few years then moved to Henry County, Illinois where grandfather Jenkins died after quite a lingering illness.^3,7

     Her common name was Polly.
